Cant read the shelf tags, sorry, but the lighting doesnt look like a Walmart.

(31,261 posts)I buy them from Walmart. It is the only place to get a steakburger patty without a hassle, and the quality is good. I have bought hamburger buns, tomatoes and onions for the burgers at Walmart. The section where the lady is at looks exactly like the section at the Walmart that I buy burger patties, bread and some produce it. The section of the store has bread racks that look like what the lady is at, a bakery that sells fresh baked stuff (the round ceiling area in the picture, produce bins and stand alone displays like in the picture, and refrigerated produce. Looks like the Walmart layout that I have seen.
She looks like a Walmart customer where I live, Walmart here attracts a broad range of wealth classes, I often see highend luxury vehicles at the one that I have gone to.
As far as the usefulness of her gun. She is better off running for one of the store exits near where she is (believe me, I pay attention to exits when I am in any public place), there are several near her. If she choses the gun, unless she is a markswoman or gets lucky, she is a dead woman if she takes on someone armed with an assault weapon.

(6,568 posts)They sell them everywhere. 711, Walmart, Subway.
Whats yuppie about that? Also, yuppies were the 80s. Those guys are all 50-60 now. Not exactly young urban professionals anymore.

(18,101 posts)And, Walmart doesn't fit in the definition, either.
But, that's not Walmart.

(20,882 posts)Saw an old guy In the supermarket there with a holstered gun standing in line. I would not make any eye contact with him. I would have left but my son with autism needed his bottle of water otherwise I would have walked out.

(11,784 posts)To the men and women Ive seen with guns on their hips in grocery stores and the mall. Because I see it all the time. And Im fairly certain I know what a gun is.
Upon checking, PA DOES have open carry, though localities can restrict it.

(18,816 posts)I have never seen anyone that I knew was carrying . I would say most people around here would not like to see guns at Walmart.
People like this make me sick. The fact that they feel like they need to carry a gun with them everywhere makes them mentally ill by definition.

(2,375 posts)Is so, she doesn't want to leave her sidearm in her vehicle, or take it off and lock it up in the trunk.
A co-worker of mine's wife works as a parole officer and has to do checks on people all times of the day and night when their ankle bracelets are cut or the battery power is low. She has to go to some bad places at night and she wears her gun this way.

(34,127 posts)She is carrying a 1911 -- the venerable choice of the military for many years and is again.
The firearm is condition 2 or 3 (3 was military).
And most importantly, no apparent massacres as a result of her carrying her firearm in Wal-mart.

(38,264 posts)It's funny how these folks would never openly carry a gun in places that are actually dangerous.
Carrying a gun just makes you a target.

(13,420 posts)My brother and his wife are both conceal carry instructors as well as NRA lovers (don't even ask how holidays go in my family!) They regularly take tactical weapons training classes. My SIL is some kind of local board member in a group that promotes "well armed women" and my brother actually does expert testimony in cases defending somebody that shoots somebody else. They don't leave the house without carrying at least a gun and a knife. Not entirely sure how a retired lawyer and a retired grade school teacher living in a town of <5000 got this terrified of the world, but they are.
One of the many disturbing things about my brother and his wife is the videos they promote that feature unknown assailants attacking unwary women in parking lots or at gas stations. the whole schtick is that you are alone. You are vulnerable. You NEED a gun. That is how they promote the fear. It's revolting.
I've had a life a privilege, but I've also experienced domestic violence and abuse, I've had a gun pulled on me, been stalked, witnessed a murder. My husband was born in East St Louis and he worked in their family bakery there. Many of his lifetime friends worked in ESL, and still live there. He lived for three years in Chicago Heights and lost friends to murder. NEITHER one of us owns a gun--let alone arms up to go buy groceries or gas. It isn't that we think something bad can't happen. We know better than that. We just refuse to live in fear.
To answer the original question, scared people arm themselves to go buy bread.

(182,281 posts)Haven't you seen the movies?
So there's this immediate action needed.
She steps back with her right foot. Says "HOLD IT!". This freezes the threat.
She unholsters the weapon (putting her arm at least parallel to the ground), raises the weapon all responsible owner like, brings the second hand in to get a good grip, squares her shoulders, begins issuing commands to said threat who at this point would have actually shot her or went over to the olive bar got a bite and came back to shoot her. Or just walked away.

(61,675 posts)I thought maybe someone behind her could reach for it if they are righthanded.
I have no idea how shed safely unholster that thing. If it were me with that set up facing a bad guy with a gun Id probably shoot myself in my tight side with the bullet going diagonally down through my torso hitting several major organs including my stomach.
