I'm not a lefty. I'm normal.

(17,152 posts)I broke my right wrist last night and I'm a righty. Left hand doesn't work as well.

(31,261 posts)I am semi- ambidextrous (can only swing sonething from above my head left-handed, when I shot guns, I shot long rifles and shotguns left-handed). But a few years back, when I had a problem with my right wrist, things like bathing, wiping my tush, brushing my teeth, were very difficult and required a lot of extra time.

(268,949 posts)switch very early - I was ambidextrous for years but turned into a full righty.
Strangely enough my left side is still my stronger side. I know this because I have exercised all my life and everything stretches better and further on my left side to this day.

(42,302 posts)From what I've read, left handed daughters of left handed mothers are as right brained as can be! That'd be me.
When people are walking toward me on the street, I always bump into them because I move left instead of right. A right handed tennis instructor (during my college years) couldn't teach me. In exercise classes, when the instructor says extend your right leg, I extend my left, etc.
I spent my childhood years with my dominant arm hanging off the end of the chair desk, with ink streaks all over my pinky and ring fingers, and ink smeared across pages.
I always sit at the head/foot of a table or on the left end in a restaurant so I don't jab people. Scissors are a disaster for me - and left handed scissors are useless.
We've got Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, Oprah, Bill Gates, Einstein, Marie Curie, Sir Isaac Newton, and Alan Turing.
Happy Left Handers Day!

I remember what a treat it was to go in a classroom that had a few left handed desks, probably in college.
It's actually amazing how we've adapted to so many things designed for right handers without even thinking, such as the layout of equipment and controls in cars.
Just occurred to me that when we unscrew jar lids, we rotate our wrist opposite to the way right handers do, so maybe we develop a different set of muscles for many tasks.

(1,706 posts)Though as an adult, there are some things I've learned to do right-handed. When I learned to use a ten key calculator, the instructor made everyone use their right hand. Actually that was a good thing for lefties, since we could go down the column of figures, make notes, etc.
I learned to golf left-handed, since I was using my dad's right-handed clubs.
My three children are all right handed like their dad, but my older son bats left-handed in baseball.

(4,446 posts)Were so much more adaptable than righties - because we have to be. Scissors are the only thing I do better with my right hand. I am left-handed, left-footed, my left eye is dominant, and even my obliques are stronger on my left side. And I have found out on the glute machine at the gym... it works one leg at a time, and a given weight is easier with the left gluteus maximus... so I am apparently left-assed as well.
