I was watching Don Lemons show last night on CNN and he quoted some poll that said 22% of blacks approve of Trumps job performance.
How can it be that high?

(56,828 posts)and gets little to no push back from Democrats and the media. Almost all the low African American unemployment happened under Obama, but it has decreased a bit under Trump as well and Trump is continually promoting that fact.
Propaganda can sink into even the most hardened people over time.

Obama lowered the unemployment rate by nearly 50% during his 8 years*. Trump so far has lowered it about 25%.
Obama lowered african american unemployment by about 42% during his 8 years, trump by about 25%.

Trump likely will never reach obama's figures above, since overall UE rate would need fall to ~2.5% to hit a 50% reduction for trump. Black UE rate would need reach ~4.0% for a 50% reduction for trump (currently ~6.0%).
* Unemployment (UE) rate when obama took office was about 9% and then increased to about 10% due to the gwbush inspired recession, which should not be blamed on obama, he's not god. So there are two start points, one when the recession bottomed out & started to reverse, the other on jan 20, 2009 when obama took office. From the inauguration obama lowered the UE rate approx 46%; from the top end of ~10% UE rate it was lowered a bit over 50%.
Trump could spin mount everest.

Approval is dynamic, can change due to changing domestic or foreign events which appeal to a particular faction.
The fox news poll you cite was done prior to trump's anti-baltimore/cummings tweets.
Remember tho, a transient approval rating now & then does not mean that percentage will vote for him. Au contraire, that will likely be around 5% of african americans voting for trump, come 2020.
Trump began talking negatively about Cummings and Baltimore in a series of tweets on July 27.
1) A Fox News poll conducted from July 21 to July 23 had Trump at 75% disapproval among black registered voters, with 22% approval.
2) In a Quinnipiac University poll conducted from July 25 to July 28 -- two days before the tweets, the day of the tweets, and one day after the tweets -- Trump had a 6% approval rating and 84% disapproval rating with black voters. Eighty percent of black voters said Trump is racist, while just 11% said he is not.
3) (after & during tweets) Washington Post/ABC News poll conducted June 28 to July 1, 81% of African Americans said they disapproved; 18% approved. Both of those approval numbers were substantially better than the one in the new Quinnipiac poll

(21,060 posts)She likes that he is deporting Hispanic because they take black peoples jobs. I was so stunned that a woman who was an aide in a special needs class with Hispanic children would gave this attitude. She was very rude to me as the substitute teacher. I never worked that class after that because of her.
