I want to take away your guns, not your gun rights....

i said that to a #MAGit and he didnt understand the difference.

So i told him it goes like this.

the 2nd amendment says that you have the right to 2+ firearms.

if it said you have the right to bear arm, id say you only get 1 firearm, but ok we can go with plural.

'arms' is subjective it can mean what you want. 'arms' can be the right to own unlimited amounts of guns or the right two own 2 guns only. who decides?

the government of course. if the government restricted you to only 2 firearms legally, three or more is illegal, that should still be constitutional. the constitution doesnt specify how many 'arms' you are allowed to have. it doesnt say unlimited. only that you have the right to bear more than one arm.

now that the government has taken away all of your guns but 2, what kind of guns are you allowed to have? again, whatever the government says you can have. the constitution doesnt say you have the right to current maximum available firepower (thus no RPGs or bazookas for you) only that you have the right to bear 'arms' whatever 'arms' means.

so i would get rid of all guns except a gun that an 80 year old woman in fear for her life could fire. a 6 shooter maybe manually loaded by bullet. i dont know that much about guns so i dont really know.

but we find a gun that an 80 year old woman could use, we sell only those guns and you are only allowed to own 2 of them.

there we go, i have eliminated maybe 90% of the guns in this country while still preserving the 2nd amendment!!!

to have guns that match the back powder sort that was available at the time it was written. I don't know how long it takes to load a musket, but I doubt these would be used for any more mass killing sprees.

Most shootings in general use 1 gun. No it wouldn't solve anything and just upset people. We need to take ALL the guns!

The constitution says you have to be part of a “well-regulated militia”. The 2nd Amendment was long understood as saying that until the NRA started spending money on judges to change it in the 1970s.

You see... you only have a right to one free speech (not “speeches” plural) and have now used that up.

"- act so as to limit or undermine (something); encroach on."

Then there is that whole 'well-regulated militia being necessary...' clause - a manually-operated 6 shooter is hardly militia-grade arm these days.

I do love how much we suddenly trust the government to do the right thing though. I guess they should have as much power in all things. Oh how far we have come!

"Mr. Gerry — This declaration of rights, I take it, is intended to secure the people against the mal-administration of the government; if we could suppose that in all cases the rights of the people would be attended to, the occasion for guards of this kind would be removed."
