especially when you read special needs and cops in the same headline. I was afraid it would go very different

I tend to be a bit of a cynic, but life has taught me something over and over again. There are a lot of good people out there.

While the wealthy and powerful are usually as awful as they seem the regular citizens...well, they often have big hearts.

This lady has one of the biggest hearts. May the powers of the universe bless her for her kindness.

There are people quietly making differences, often without recognition or glory. Sadly, one reason we don’t hear or read more about these heroes is because of the assholes who take all the oxygen out of the room. But when things get to be too much and your hope is running out, remember the mostly unsung heroes. They’re around us every day and for that, I’m grateful.

And while I've never been one, I fervently hope that if someone in my past with such needs were to recall my name, that I'd immediately do what I could to help.

In all honesty, it wouldn't work out for someone to live with me for very long, but I could certainly do a lot towards helping someone live in a new place. That said, I wouldn't just abandon someone I'd taken in.
