The emoluments violations are a very serious breach of our Constitution.

It is not a joking matter.

Why was Jimmy Carter forced to get rid of his peanut farm when he became President? Were they afraid he might become compromised by selling peanuts to someone that was not friendly to our national interests? The Founders put it in the Constitution for a reason.

It is a very, very serious matter.

Yet, the House and Senate turn their heads the other way when they see the present occupant of the White House violating this clause of the Constitution. Why? I suppose it seems trivial to them, relative to all the other crimes they have witnessed?

The voters should hold the House and Senate responsible in protecting our Constitution. They are not doing their job.

I suspect timing for maximum impact on the part of the House - is a factor.

What makes this piece-of-shit "president" dictator wannabe immune from the basic hard-and-fast laws of the Constitution? We're way overdue for a massive, sustained, coast-to-coast protest over what's going on. They're just going to keep on doing this shit until they're scared of us. Jesus, the things history is going to say about what a bunch of limp wussies we were, the sick, evil things that we allowed to happen without raising a single contrary finger, all the matters we put off, thinking it would all end well with the 2020 election. Everlasting shame on us.

No Senator or Representative shall, during the Time for which he was elected, be appointed to any civil Office under the Authority of the United States, which shall have been created, or the Emoluments whereof shall have been increased during such time; and no Person holding any Office under the United States, shall be a Member of either House during his Continuance in Office.

The Framers of the Constitution understood this clause primarily as an anti-corruption device.

There has been very little academic commentary on the clause and virtually no judicial explication of it. The only two lawsuits brought challenging appointments under the clause have been dismissed on grounds of lack of standing.

It seems as if any charges of 'benefit' have to sit within the criminal arena of corruption, and not the constitution.

That's the reason they requested Trump's tax returns and are in the process of getting them. Guarantee that violations of the emoluments clause will be one of the articles of impeachment. Elijah Cummings has as much as said so on Rachel Maddow.

that need to be changed.

Carter sold willingly, to make sure he would never appear to have conflicts.

So many things that a normal, respectful, careful person would do have been obliterated by the occupant.

but the way to avoid violating it is not. There is not specific law that a president must dispose of assets, or put them in a blind trust that cannot be accessed. Therefore, the remedy requires action on the part of others in the government after the fact.

Nothing required him to do that. He put it in a blind trust. As it turns out he was shocked to find at the end of four years that his trustees had been incompetent and the farm was $1 million in debt. He was able to get out of that with royalties from his books.

Yep they got a crook. And now they have to swallow the stinking muck they so passionately screamed and paid billions for. And once Trump is gone, they will forget they lost that fight and go back to the same old "rapists and criminals" and "welfare queens" lies. Each generation of these pests teaches the next how and who to hate.

From the House. Nothing from the Senate. Several state AGs filed suit but that was thrown out by the 4th circuit in July.

I am furious that nothing is being done about it. Or at least nothing that is having an impact. I am so furious that this gang of grifters is getting away with murder and has yet to experience any consequences for their actions. When will they be held accountable? I would really like to know.

"the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed". Everything else is up for grabs if it suits them. The GOPer politicians know this and they take advantage of it whenever they can.

They "redact" everything in the constitution AND their bible they care nothing about. Like Barr, they all have a massive supply of Black Pernanent markers with them at all times. Their copy of each of those, constitution and bible, look like the Mueller report and any other investigative report exposing their treasonous criminal activities.
