... El Paso Police said that Patrick Crusius, 21, carried out the mass shooting at the Cielo Vista Mall Walmart, killing 22 and injuring 25 more. Multiple media reports have stated that Crusius was a 2017 graduate of Plano Senior High School.

A document allegedly left behind by Crusius stated that he was targeting Mexicans. Court affidavits say that he told police the same thing ...

“We grieve with our neighbors in El Paso and are heartbroken that what is happening in society today is affecting our kids and our communities,” said Superintendent Bonser. “Our students and coaches were eager for this opportunity to come together with Eastwood High to promote a message of compassion and healing, but what should be a celebratory event would be encumbered by safety concerns for the participants and fans of both teams. Our top priority must be the safety of all” ...

Sources told KTSM 9 Sports Plano ISD reached out to Ysleta ISD to release a joint statement to cancel the Week 2 matchup between Eastwood and Plano High. YISD did not want to cancel the game, instead, offered to host the game. PISD gave them a “hard no” ...

If they don't show up at the designated place for a scheduled game, they forfeit the game.

There is absolutely no legitimate reason for them not to show up and play as scheduled.

The league had better well give them a loss.

... Fort Bend County is home to Sugar Land and other cities where demographics and political stripes are dramatically changing. And voters in the 22nd congressional district who have elected Republicans opposed to major gun restrictions in recent years may be considering giving a Democrat the job in 2020.

It's pressure like this from these suburban communities in other parts of the country that could shift the debate on gun measures in Congress this fall.

"I don't think the NRA is doing its job that it was originally set out to do. They've become far too strident and Second Amendment — more guns, screw everybody else," said Fort Bend County resident Tom, a longtime NRA member who spoke to NPR but declined to give his last name out of fear for his family's safety. "I don't think they are doing a good job representing us. I personally — this is really gonna get me in trouble — I personally don't have any need for the AR- and AK-style weapons."

Tom, who made the comments from Fort Bend County gun range, thinks if high-capacity magazines behind mass shootings can't be banned, then it's time to ban assault-style weapons ...

6. Gov. Abbott won't commit to special session

Nearly two weeks after a mass shooting in El Paso, Gov. Greg Abbott promised that his office, and the Legislature, would take appropriate action to stop future tragedies — but quashed any speculation that he’d call lawmakers back for a special session to make it happen.

Despite calls from a number of Texas Democrats to come back to Austin and address gun violence, Abbott told a live audience during a televised town hall at the University of Texas at Tyler that “it doesn’t require a special session for lawmakers to act.” Still, he insisted that waiting until 2021 to formally meet didn’t mean he wouldn’t act ...

Abbott .. said he plans to release more details next week about a series of roundtables he’ll host with other lawmakers and state leaders to discuss possible legislative solutions that could prevent another massacre ...

We should have a pool for the solutions suggested at these round tables! Additional gun safety classes in Texas schools? Arm school janitors? Require students to pray each morning for a bullet-free day? Distribute NRA literature during assemblies?
