The best strategy against Donald Trump is to put him on the defensive.

Last edited Sun Aug 18, 2019, 02:38 PM - Edit history (2)

As we have seen many times, that is not hard to do.

If anyone says anything negative about him, he has to respond. He just can't help it. That is his Achilles heel.

If the Democrats were to copy Trump's tweet strategy and put out a tweet every morning, they could control the narrative and he would have to respond. Like a leopard, he cannot change his spots.

For example:

Democrats could make a statement about how Trump stole the good economy of Barack Obama and is about to drive it off the cliff. Obama created more jobs in his last 30 months in office than Trump created in his first 30 months in office. That is a fact.

The next day, they could make a statement about how Trump has not kept his promises. He did not build a wall. Mexico did not pay for it. He did not put Hillary in jail. There are less coal miners in Kentucky today than the day he took office. Everybody did not get a $4000 tax cut. The billionaires got a tax cut and most of them put it back into their stock buy backs.

The next day, they could remind people that Trump is a puppet of Vladimir Putin. He loves Putin more than he loves America. He doesn't work for America - he works for Donald Trump. He is a big, fat blowhard.

And so forth...

Every day they could come out with a statement that would get under his skin. And he would have to respond. That is the way to take on Donald Trump.

edit:

And the best response of all is:
He likes to call names. He is like a twelve year old on the school-ground. He's a big, old Baby!

Knowing that the next day he will come out and call names.

And the Democrats can say, "See, I told you so." What more proof do you need?

But coming from a female democratic candidate would get his attention better than us. It is why I have been saying one or two of our candidates with low numbers should stay in to do just this. Stalk his fat ass. Or any of our dem candidates could do it. Beto seems to really get under his skin for some reason...

Hillary beat him by about 3 million votes. She should be the President right now - not Donald Trump.

That would drive him up the wall !

he's getting blamed for the impending "Trump Recession". The blame should really fall on the Repug Party. If he doesn't watch his back - the Party will turn on him and Trump will get the blame.

They have to respond.

When he gets up every morning and starts the day with some diatribe about "socialists" or "communists" or "Pocahontas" or "Clinton killed Epstein" or some silly nickname, and lies that reflect directly on the Democratic Party, they have to fight back.

When in Rome, do as the Romans do. When fighting someone that is dirty as they come, don't come to the fight in a white shirt. The blood stands out. Usually it is your own.

In my opinion, Democrats do need a couple of attack dogs to keep the pressure on Trump and put him on the defensive. It is not that difficult but for some reason, they just don't do it.

================

Demand to see Ivanka's emails.

Ilhan Omar has been a citizen of this country longer than Melania Trump.

Donald Trump lied about his taxes and he lied about his weight. Is there anything he won't lie about?

Paul Manafort was an international criminal. He was Trump's Campaign Chairman. Did Donald Trump know he was laundering money?

Donald Trump is a racist. He proves it every day.

He is a terrible businessman. He has bankrupted six businesses and America may be his seventh?

Is it his tanning bed or is it just a bad make-up job?

There are many ways to put him on the defensive and to give the insults right back at him. Democrats cannot win by talking about the issues and that is unfortunate. They must fight this pig in the mud and be willing to stuff it in his eyes.

45 and his gaggle of far-far-right extremists have completely unhinged our universe. It’s therefore imperative to call him out whenever he goes afoul of the law and basic human decency. Unfortunately, for us all, that’s now a daily occurrence.

And welcome to DU, FJLACAFTA.

I would put out one broken promise at a time.

Don't forget his failed businesses.

It would help even more to date each one. One this day xx years ago trump said/promised/filed bankruptcy.

Trump has been on the defensive with Biden quite a bit, despite this not even being the general election campaign. I think other Democrats can put him on the defensive, too, like Harris and Beto - but engaging Trump is a winner. He does not do well on the defensive and it puts him off message. Hillary was the strongest when she went head-on after Trump. Especially in the debate. She didn't engage him often enough, though, which I think hurt her - she tried to stay above it. But one of her best moments was when she called him Putin's Puppet and his response was a lame, "you're the puppet". It looked bad from his end. The problem is that there were too few of those moments in the debate.

This is one reason why I think Biden would be a good candidate. Biden will have no problem going for the jugular with Trump and won't get knocked off balance when Trump tries to hit back, which will infuriate Trump even more. I can see Biden needling him to the point where he has a complete meltdown.

That’s why he’ll suddenly come out of left field and derail everyone and everything.

If it got bad enough for him I wouldn’t put it past him to detonate a nuclear weapon. In any case he would do something that would scare the shit out of the world.
