House Republicans have been circulating a memo internally that instructs members of Congress to blame violence initiated by white supremacists, like the recent El Paso mass shooting, as something that is the fault of the left, according to The Tampa Bay Times.
A spokesperson for Rep. Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) said the memo was provided by the House Republican Conference, is currently chaired by Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY). Bilirakis included talking points from the memo in a newsletter he emailed to constituents last week.
The memo provides Republican members a series of questions they are likely to face from constituents and gives them the language to respond ...

(2,955 posts)This is right out of the Russian manipulation playbook. It's like Spongebob Squarepants' "opposite day" - say everything the opposite of what it really is. They'll just keep repeating it over and over again in full deadpan mode until the waters are so muddied that no one knows what the hell is going on.
Everything they're doing will bring America as we know it closer to its end. But they merely see it as a tactic to gain advantage.
My hatred for this conservative movement as currently practiced knows no bounds.

How's this?
JOE SCARBOROUGH: The anti-fascists have killed zero people, and it must be stressed, they're patriots defending the Constitution and the rule of law against lunatics. Furthermore, the FBI says most mass killings are done by white supremacists.
CHENEY: C'mon Joe, everyone knows the left is to blame for all the killings by the right.
CHUCK SCHUMER: What? Conservatives have become a special kind of stupid, haven't they?
CHENEY (pointing a gun at Schumer): See? You're confusing me.

(3,433 posts)Sincerely, I mean that.
The El Paso shooter is the topic to scouts for the GOP, because everyone seems to accept that guy hated immigrants. And they just don't want the GOP blamed.
But the Dayton shooter is the one that the right blames as being leftist.
I don't normally see a lot of room to be generous with the GOP when it comes to benefit of the doubt these days, but this has to have been a typo.

(24,391 posts)If politics don't actually play a role in what one does, it seems like it should be irrelevant IMHO. And nobody on the left is inciting hatred and violence like the Con is, anyway. It's not hard to figure out what inspired the El Paso shooter. It's not hard to figure out what inspired the Montana man to slam that kid into the ground, causing significant brain injuries.

I agree with your key points, but the right is trying to make them mirror stories. And as such, this had to have been a mistake.

(24,391 posts)I'm not saying that you're agreeing with their POV.
the right is trying to make Dayton into a leftist, but they always claim that every mass shooter is a leftist - until the facts come out. I think there is a cottage industry in creating fake facebook/twitter accounts for every mass shooter to make them into a Democrat.

Nazi war criminal Alois Brunner 'died in Syria squalor'
One of his guards said Brunner, who went by the name of Abu Hussein, suffered and cried a lot in his final years, everyone heard him.
The man, identified only as Omar, said he couldnt even wash.
All he had to eat were army rations awful stuff and an egg or a potato. He had to choose one or the other.
(He was a 'consultant' to various torture regimes but when he became a political
embarrassment/liability, his retirement plan was really bad)

(14,285 posts)Say NO, the El Paso shooter was anti-immigrant. Gabby Giffords was a Democrat, FFS. And her shooter was mentally ill, like the people you Republicans let buy guns as your first order of business in 2017.
