Social Security payment schedule

I know it balances out, but I recently realized that some of my s.s. deposits come 5 weeks apart. July had 5 Wed. so I got a deposit the 4th week. There was a full week left in July. I won't get the next check until the last week of Aug. 36 days altogether.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who has property taxes, house ins, and car ins. all due in July and Aug. I thought it was just all the extras, but no, have to stretch my check an extra week.
I guess I feel a little better knowing that even though I was on budget, gotta stretch it. I do ok, and I'm not complaining. Before the realization hit me, I was always so happy when there were 5 weeks, because I felt like I was a little ahead of schedule. As I said, it balances out.

For example, the third Tuesday every month

Because of the way the calendar is if the gets split it may extend into the following week, but it should follow the pattern I outlined above

The third Saturday of every month
The third Friday of every Month

Etc

But sometimes there is a 5th Wed. So sometimes a short month, sometimes a long one.

Though it may sound like one.

There are prepaid debit cards that you can have SS direct deposit to. Brinks has one. I use Netspend. I get my payment as many as five days ahead of schedule.

I imagine that'll be the next step after direct deposit. It would probably solve the solution for people who can't afford a bank acct.

Thank you for mentioning it!

It's because I qualify for Medicaid as well as Medicare.
If the 3rd of the month is on a Saturday, Sunday, or Monday holiday I get it the previous Friday.

and I have to wonder about just why it was designed that way. Seems that a simple the X date of the month would make more sense but I guess I don't understand all the things in the works.

That means that if the 15th falls on a Thursday, I won't get my SS until the 21st - basically a week later than if the 15th had been on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Goofy as hell.

...them 5-weekers…3-4 times a year...

...I'm the second Wednesday each month...this year Feb, Jun, Aug, Nov are 5-weekers for me...

...it's how the calendar rotates...

...it doesn't matter, you still only get 12 checks per year...

...what does matter is that we increase Social Security benefits to a living income...

...that would help millions out of poverty and to survive...

...another strong reason to vote for Bernie...

...it'll never happen without him...

My adult autistic son who lives with me received SSI benefits for many years and now receives a combination of SSI and Social Security (tied to my benefits, don't really know why) The SSI portion of my sons benefits is paid on the first day of each month and the Social Security payments are made on the third day of each month, unless the third falls on a weekend, then the payment is made on the previous Friday (which would be the first or second day of the month).

In eight years there have been no problems with our direct deposits at all. Everything works as advertised. I would encourage everyone to budget and build up some savings. It's not a difficult thing to do. I don't expect to ever be rich but we are living comfortably.

Also, every so often, you'll get two 5 week months in a row.

I have a spreadsheet where I do most of my finances. I have a calendar set up so I can spot the 5's coming.

And all payments are a week later.

I get mine on the 4th Wed. Last one was on July 24 next will be August 29, yes, 35 days later.

To better budget yourself, look at each month and circle the date, whether it is the second or the 4th Wednesday.

Sometimes, it is the only thing on the calendar. lol And I know which months have the extras (property taxes, ins.) I just noticed that there are 2 ways to look at the schedule. I was looking at the short months (about 29 days) and noticed the long months (35 days) and to my dismay, this is a long month. But I have everything paid, and next month will be back to normal I hope for everyone!
