Communism vs Socialism; A Primer for the Historically Uninformed!

COMMUNISM A defunct social movement, practiced primarily in the age of Aquarius, by people called Hippies, who lived in communes and got high on LSD and believed in Free Love!

SOCIALISM A contemporary political movement, founded by Senator Bernie Sanders, for people who may or may not believe in free love, but do believe in Free College and Free Healthcare for All.

Though contemporary Socialists sometimes ingest LSD or other hallucinogens from time to time, their drug of choice is marijuana, which, thanks to the rise of socialism, is now legal in many states!

Since you seem to feel that you are historically informed please review the labor movement in the United States around the 1900s through the FDR administration. Ideas like a 40 hour work week, strong labor unions, a strong social safety net, progressive taxation, the government becoming the employer of last resort etc. These ideas and many others were/are socialist in nature but are a long way from the idea of the government controlling the means of production. They are answers to shortcomings of Capitalism. The Republican Party has torn down much of what FDR put in place. Those policies led to to greatest middle class that the world has ever seen. As those policies have been eroded, the middle class has shrunk. We now have incredible income inequality. One off the most socialist programs we have ever had is the GI bill. Almost free college and the cheapest home mortgage around.
