Now, shall we have a pool on how long it takes him to be hired by another department?

No chance this guy can be slipped into the kind of low-budget department that would be glad to be able to hire a trained, experienced officer without the community finding out. Also, the liability for a small community could be potentially disastrous if he were to hurt someone.

Pantaleo will not receive his NYPD pension

Daniel Pantaleo will not receive his New York Police Department pension, NYPD Commissioner James O’Neill just said.

O’Neill said whatever contributions Pantaleo has already made towards his pension will be returned to him.

As other people have mentioned, he should really be in jail. And it took 4 YEARS to get him out of the job. But, I guess we have to start *somewhere*. Maybe the next police officer won't take as long to be removed- or may actually see some jail/prison time for their actions.

When those in charge refuse to see that the racism is systemic, nothing happens.

In Macomb County, near Detroit, we’ve got a lot people more concerned about the death of a police dog than a man, Theoddeus Gray.

Thankfully, Michigan’s new AG, Dana Nessel, has opened an investigation.

this press conference. Not once did he say Judge Maldonado. He referred to the police officer and everyone else by their title and last name, but not the Judge. Even when press members referred to Judge Maldonado's decision, O'Neill would reply with Rosemarie or Rose Mary. He said it many times - very deliberate and disrespectful. Her name is Judge Rosemarie Maldonado.

The video says otherwise, but an internal NYPD report claims the arrest of Eric Garner on Staten Island went relatively smoothly, except for the cardiac-arrest part. The preliminary document, obtained by the New York Daily News, quotes Sergeant Dhanan Saminath, an officer present at the scene, saying “he perpetrator’s did not appear to be in great distress.” Shall we check the tape on that? Nope, definitely full of distress.

Another officer, Sergeant Kizzy Adonis, said “the perpetrator’s condition did not seem serious and that he did not appear to get worse.” Garner, a 43-year-old father of six, died soon after. (He “became unresponsive, though he was observed to be breathing,” according to the report, and went into cardiac arrest “when he was placed on the stretcher.”) Four other officers involved, including Daniel Pantaleo, who administered the illegal chokehold, were not interviewed for the report, pending a criminal investigation.

The Daily News adds that Adonis also told interviewers she “believed she heard” Garner, who was suspected of selling loose cigarettes, “state that he was having difficulty breathing.” On the tape, he can be heard saying “I can’t breathe” at least nine times.

but it's something.

since I don't support the death penalty, when it's homicide there can never truly be justice. Eric Garner and his loved ones deserved much more.

on Bay Street, SI retired at full pension.

According to NYDN reports:

An order to crack down on the illegal sale of 75-cent cigarettes in Staten Island came directly from Police Headquarters, setting off a chain of events that ended in Eric Garner's death, the Daily News has learned.

Chief of Department Philip Banks — the highest-ranking uniformed cop in the city — sent a sergeant from his office at 1 Police Plaza in July to investigate complaints of untaxed cigarettes being sold in the Tompkinsville neighborhood, a source close to the investigation told The News.

" (Banks) set the whole thing in motion," the source said.

snip=========================================================

The sale of loosies had been on Banks' radar since at least March, when it was discussed at a meeting at Police Headquarters about quality-of-life issues, a police source

snip=========================================================

Sometime in early July, a memo was sent to the Staten Island borough command, a source said. The memo stressing the need to address quality-of-life issues was then forwarded to bosses in the 120th Precinct for "immediate attention," according to the source.
