a fat refund check. Apparently, the company didn't meet the 80% benefits payout requirement in ACA for 2018, and had to issue a refund on the entire year of premium payments. I won't say how much the refund was but it was low four figures.
That will pay for my new old Ford Ranger to use for hauling away junk in our general cleanup this fall! Huzzah!

(146,254 posts)They had to do the same for the 2017 year, too, but not quite as much. It's another thing written into the ACA to prevent unwarranted profits by "non-profit" health insurance companies. Progress, if we can keep it.

Sure, it makes you more likely to vote for the mf'er, right?

(7,719 posts)Mine was about $400. I send them a little over a thousand a month for premiums. A welcomed surprise, but I'm sure they have suits trying to devise a way to get that money back as we speak. Its what they do! Ha, ha, Six more months and I go on medicare and stop paying the extortion! That'll be like a $600 to $800 raise to my monthly income, depending on how much a supplement policy is. I haven't made it yet, but I can smell it baking in the oven!

(45,380 posts)The ACA does have lots of good provisions. I got a smaller check but it was still nice to get something. My company also pays cash for doing wellness screenings and activities. It is nice to get money to do my free annual physical each year.

(2,741 posts)An insurance company sent my 80 something-year-old mother a letter telling her that she couldnt keep her plan because the Obama administration wouldnt let them. No they couldnt keep that plan because it resulted in excess profit above the 20% limit. But The company didnt tell the customers that.
