But then, we are semi-retired.

If it were not for the fact that I run a small business from Home, we would have had to pay in for 2018 taxes. We did get a few bucks back, but nothing to write home about. Owed State Taxes though.

After a hard day on your feet, a nice warm---say, 122 degree---foot soak sounds pretty good, right?

Ok, so let's put your right foot in a bucket of 32 degree (freezing) water and your left foot in a bucket of 212 degree (boiling) water.

Comfy?

Surely, your feet feel great because the average temp of the water they're in is 122 degrees.

Another example: if there are 10 people in a room and 9 are unemployed and the other has a job that pays $1,000,000 a year, the AVERAGE income of those in the room is $100,000. So, everyone is eating and paying their bills, right?

As Daddy used to say: "Figures can lie and liars can figure".

I said as much in my reply to him. Median would have been a better figure. I mean it's likely those who received a sizable tax cut skewed the average.

My husband took a pay cut this yr, and our tax return was reduced by 75% (1k back vs 4-5k). We are on an austerity budget, which I’m calling it our own economic boycott.

I pay 50% in Germany already (90% where the Germans choose to ignore the double taxation treaty). The only raise my household got last year was in utilities bills.

Mike Pence knows as much about my household finances as he knows about classical Chinese calligraphy.

The median income rose 1.3%, but cost of living rose 2.44%. So the average American made less real money.

Where he got his number I don’t know. Maybe he took a poll at the country club and assumed it applied to all Americans.

housing market. It has nothing to do with Trump. It's always been this way. You have a good year, then a mediocre year, than a better year and periodically it tanks. My income hasn't changed and it's primarily based on what's hot and what's not in the antique and collectibles business. Why Pence is a devoted cult member of the least Christian man on earth is a mystery.

He is either a pathological liar, (which seems to be the essence of his recent tweets) or our new Minister of Propaganda at Minutrue, or both. In fact, it qualifies him for the job.

That sheep suit fits him well, though, but you can see the drool sliding down his chin. Mother would agree, methinks.

With previously legal deductions being unallowed, itemization changes, plus Trump’s “tax cut”. First time in 34 yrs of marriage that we’ve ever had to pay.

Hubby switched to claiming single so they’d withhold the most possible. So now we’re paying Trump & Co $400 extra a month. Should have only needed to increase it by $220/mo to cover the difference, but in knee jerk reaction and a quick fix requiring no math, we’re ending up giving extra to the govt to “hold” for us. Pisses me off!

Wish it was 5k, but happy to get half of that. The increase in the standard deduction was a big deal for us come tax time as a married older couple with no dependents. Have not been able to itemize for years, so ended up paying $2800 less in taxes compared to 2017
