Thank you Obamacare!! Thank you President Obama

Last edited Fri Aug 31, 2012, 01:52 AM - Edit history (1)

4 years ago my grandmother was slowly dying, she had survived breast cancer, throat cancer, and even a stroke, but by 95 years old her body was beginning to shut down.

My Grandmother worked for 31 years as a Teacher. she raised 3 children on $4,000 a year. her husband was murdered in the 1940's for trying to get blacks in the union in New york. She was pregnant with her 3rd child at the time of her husbands death. She went to college during the great depression years at Hampton Institute. So when her husband died she moved back home to her mothers and got a job teaching at the All black highschool in our hometown.

I have to give her bio so everyone knows she did her part for this country, she worked hard she raised her kids, and when she got older she should have be been taken care of.

well when my grandmother had her stroke, she needed to go to a nursing home DR.s Orders, for 30 days to recuperate. At the time medicare would not pay for her to stay in the Nursing Home because they had a rule. She would have had to have given up ownership of her home 2 years prior to having a stroke. In other words the only way they would pay is if she had NOTHING. fortunately i have a rich uncle on my Mother's side he got her the care she needed. As I said earlier she was slowly dying 4 years ago. So even though she survived the stroke. a few years later old age took her. The day President obama was being inaugurated we had her funeral.

Fast foward to today and why i am greatful for Obamacare. Friday my father was suffering heart failure. He actually drove himself to the hospital, I don't live in the same town as my father. Well His Dr.s said he needs to stay in a nursing home to recuperate. My heart sank I thought oh God here we go again, and their are no Rich anythings on my Father's side to save the day.

Well I was talking to my Father today and I asked him about the cost. He said, "they had me fill out paperwork so the Insurance Company will pay for it!!!" My father only has Medicare. I have to tell I am so grateful, Now my father can focus on getting well, and not stressing out about how much money this will cost. Which is not good for a person with a bad heart. He can have the dignity of getting proper care and not be treated like drain on society because he is too old to work. Or Feel like a burden to his family as we "pass the plate" to collect the money for his care.

My father is an extremely hard worker, he also put his time in for this country. He use to make car parts for American cars, until his job was sent to mexico. Back in 1991, he almost died on the job when Hot Lava exloded back into his face and rolled down his safety Apron. AND HE WENT BACK TO WORK 6 WEEKS later after that accident.

I promise you the wealthy people like Mitt Romney could not image what real hard work is like. No way they would ever do a job like that and then go back after almost dying. My father did his service to this country as did my Grandmother in their way. and i am so glad that because of Obamacare he is getting the right help at the right time!

Don't let nobody tell you different Affordable Healthcare for all is a good thing for this country it's the right thing to do.

Now If you made it this far, Please pray for a full recovery for my Daddy, I am not ready to lose him, and this country can't afford to lose Obamacare. Just like my dad it's too important

that if they repeal Obamacare insurance cos can deny you insurance no matter how much Rmoney's voucher is for. Under Obamacare ins cos CANNOT deny you insurance. If your voucher is for $8,000 then you'll just have to use it for medical expenses and then pay the difference out of your savings. This is so important and most don't understand that. I hope your Dad gets better and goes home soon.

understand it and I'm a 70 yr old woman. There's just no excuse for voting for someone who is going to make your life Hell down the road. I'm sure some are saying "when I get there it will have been changed". Stupid thinking. Take it from someone who knows, Medicare as it is is a wonderful thing. And Rmoney/Ryan make it no secret that they want to end it so they can give themselves another tax break. It really bothers me that people are this stupid.

I think Medicare will pay for rehabilitative nursing home services, but not for long-term care, and Medicare is not based on income and assets; Medicaid is. And my experience with Medicaid when my mother needed nursing home care, was that assets had to be spent down to whatever the minimum was (funeral expenses, basically) which really only makes good sense.

it would be medicaid and not Medicare.

Either way I am just grateful that my father doesn't have to go through, what my grandmother was subjected to.
