Florida Woman Beaten with Mallet and Set on FIre by Appliance Delivery Man Dies

https://www.newsweek.com/florida-woman-beaten-mallet-set-fire-appliance-delivery-man-dies-1455378
<snip>
ARSON
An elderly woman in South Florida welcomed two men into her Boca Raton home who were delivering a washer and dryer from Best Buy. After one of the men walked outside to call the office, he heard screams come from inside the home.

The man outside on his phone rushed into the home and saw the 75-year-old woman on the floor and covered in blood. The man who discovered the scene called 911 while the other man, 21-year-old Jorge Luis Dupre Lachazo, fled and drove away in the delivery truck.

Boca Raton police found a 75-year-old woman burned and badly beaten when they arrived. A responding officer pulled Lachazo over not far from the scene, according to a report by NBC 6 in Miami. Lachazo was "very sweaty and was shaking, as if he was nervous" as he was taken into custody. He was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, arson and aggravated battery to a person over the age of 65.

Police found a blood-soaked mallet with a wooden handle on top of the washing machine, which also had blood all over it. A wine bottle was also found in the area.

The woman was taken to a hospital Monday and was being treated for her injuries before she succumbed to them on Tuesday.

It was a few years back but this too was a sub-contractor going to people's homes.
The perverse irony of it though ... he was selling home security systems and he
assaulted the homeowner.

If you have unknown people coming to install kitchen stuff, deliver furniture, etc. or work in your home, and you know you will be alone, invite a friend or neighbor over. Do not let strangers in your home if you are alone. Sub-contractors are the worst of them.

I just had two men deliver a refrigerator and stove to my apartment a little over a week ago and an electrician into my apartment today to hook up the electric stove (the old one was wired into the wall). I didn't even think about how dangerous it could be.

I live in a concierge building, but if they had wanted to harm me they easily could have and made it out one of the other building exits. I was fortunate in that they were all very nice and I didn't feel the slightest bit threatened by them, but you just never know when you are alone with a strange man or men.

The poor woman. She didn't stand a chance.

Find out if the store is using a sub-contractor to deliver and invite a friend relative or neighbor. Be just as wary about the cable folks. I worry less about the technicians because all of us close friends use the same folks for electrical work, plumbing, etc.

First they got their truck tangled up in power lines, then whined that my fridge wouldn’t fit in the door ( I had measured it), then cursed about other customers, hooked the washer up wrong, then knocked a dent in the wall for good measure.

Lazy as hell, which is why they tried to say the fridge wouldn’t fit. Awful men. Ugh.

I have all kinds of self protective devices thanks to my dad, may he Rest In Peace lol.

I think the sound of the dogs would have been more than enough to scare them off of any nefarious ideas. A beautiful pit, a beautiful boxer/shepherd mix and two yap yaps that would tear their ankles off.

Being a woman alone all these years, I frequently reference a dad, a male friend, a brother who is on the way over ha.

Sickening to have to do this, but it’s a long habit.
