Barack Obama requesting Aretha Franklin's inauguration hat from estate

Amid the battle for Aretha Franklin's estate, former President Barack Obama has asked for one thing: the silver bow hat she wore to his first inauguration.

According to a report from the New York Times, a judge is conisdering whether some of her personal items can be given as keepsakes to her sons, but also to people like Obama.

In court, though, the sons remain apart. Two of them, Edward and Kecalf, attended a recent hearing, where the judge considered whether to allow a distribution of some personal items as keepsakes to the sons but also to people like Barack Obama, who Mr. Bennett said has asked for the elaborate silver bow hat that Franklin wore to his first inauguration.

The hat, which featured Swarovski crystals and a large bow, went viral after the inaguration. It was designed by the Queen of Soul's close friend Luke Song of Mr. Song Millinery.

Of course if the two sons cannot figure out who gets it if the will does not specify it, then it will have to be auctioned.

I wonder how this story leaked. It seems like something that President Obama would want to keep private (a private letter to the sons offering condolences and the request to pay fair market value for the hat).

"In an interview with Page Six, song said Franklin told him that she wanted her hat to end up at the Barack Obama Presidential Library."

This is why estate planning is so important. This bequeath should have been signed and notarized at a minimum.

The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit would be a good contender, as well.

They held a two day viewing there upon her passing.

At the inauguration of the first black president. It definitely belongs to generations that follow this highly distinguishable and loving human being. It definitely belongs in President Obama's library for all to see and admire. If given to the sons who knows what will become of it and that would be ashame. If given to anyone else I'm sure it will be in good hands, however, President Obama made it more than just an beautiful hat of a great artist, he made it part of history.

My prayer is that our Heavenly Father will give us the strength to lift ourselves from these dark times and remember how it was to walk in the light.
