Meteorologists react to the raving lunatic's idea of nuking hurricanes

https://www.msn.com/en-us/weather/topstories/futile-and-obviously-dangerous-meteorologists-react-to-trump-suggesting-nukes-to-stop-hurricanes/ar-AAGkKnn?ocid=spartanntp
<snip>
"Over my 35 years as a meteorologist I have received calls & handwritten letters from people proposing this. I gently try to explain to them that according to @NASA a hurricane can expend as much energy as 10,000 nuclear bombs during its life cycle. Futile and obviously dangerous," John Morales, a chief meteorologist at NBC 6 in Miami, tweeted.

Ryan Maue, another meteorologist, agreed about the idea's ineffectiveness.

"Detonating a nuclear bomb inside a hurricane would do nothing to disrupt the storm," he said. "Instead, you now have a radioactive hurricane."

The idea is not a new one and dates back to at least the Eisenhower administration. From time-to-time the hypothetical plan resurfaces, which even led to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration publishing an easily understood fact sheet as to why it wouldn't work.

He's a partner with a South Korean man who develops nuclear plants, so using nukes could bring him more profit. He'd be sure to order replacement nukes from himself.

why doesn't Trump just order US companies to break up hurricanes before they form? He could penalize those who don't, and reward the winners with tariff exemptions. For all his briliance, Trump is not very consistent on his policy proposals.

I have noticed some of his followers floating the, "it was just a joke" defense again. Oh, yeah, enable him, that's right.

No, it is NOT FUNNY. If it was a joke, a President who walks around thinking like a standup comedian and deprecating serious issues is not fit at all for the job, period. There is a time and a place for humor and we would hope a President would have a good sense for that, but this is beyond the pale and not at all excusable, it is downright deplorable.
