I remember going to a Springfield, Ohio Bill Clinton rally in 1992. I remember a lot of pissed off farmers that were highly enthusiastic about Clinton. Next year will be a good time to actively reach out for the farm vote, since they are hurting. Make it so!

(5,499 posts)He was late. I had a date with this woman I was sort of seeing but was really late and she never wanted to go out again. Which was awesome because I met and married someone so much better. That was a great summer of following Clinton along and later canvassing for him...

(82,849 posts)Start reserving ad time now for August through November next year. It sounds like some farmers are willing to listen to another side of the political spectrum. They might just like what they hear, and Democrats can peel off a few percentage points. Maybe not enough to win a farm state, but enough to force the Republicans to spend money they'd rather spend in Texas or Florida.

(2,419 posts)they're an interesting lot. They follow an odd brand of conservatism-not enough contact with other human beings. Took me a long time to gain trust with the farming community. I'll leave some of my better farmer stories for another day, but..... One of my farm clients told me a while back that he cast his first ever vote for a democrat for president when he voted for Hillary. (it was almost like he was confessing to me) Same guy asked another local farmer we were working on some farm labor immigration issues with "so how's that vote for Trump working out for you?" They are definitely pissed off and hurting right now. There just aren't enough farmers out there to swing a presidential election. Such a small part of the population as a whole. Now a senate election....that's another story. You flip farmers in rural states to vote for democrats for the senate and you might have something.
