Veterans rip Trump for 'abominable and unpatriotic' new rule attacking military families

By Oliver Willis -
August 29, 2019

'The stress and strain that this is causing military families is a cruelty that one would never expect from a commander in chief.'

Veterans and military advocacy organizations are slamming the Trump administration for sudden changes to immigration rules announced Wednesday that children of government and military employees living overseas are not considered to be "residing in the United States" for the purpose of acquiring citizenship.

The change is "an abominable and anti-patriotic position for the Trump Administration to take," said Will Goodwin, an Army veteran and Director of Government Relations for the group VoteVets, in a statement.

"Tonight, there's someone likely on patrol in a war zone, or at an embassy, who is scared to death that their child is no longer a citizen, just because they were born overseas. There are military families sitting at the kitchen table, trying to figure out how this might affect their child's benefits. The stress and strain that this is causing military families is a cruelty that one would never expect from a commander in chief."

Andy Blevins, executive director of Modern Military Association of America — a group of LGBTQ service members, military spouses, veterans, their families — called the change "preposterous" and "truly beyond reasonable."

I don't know about anyone else on this issue, but coming from a military family and having a brother born in Japan, a sister born in Germany........................I think that asshole Stephen Miller and this "commander and thief" of being a traitor (lets not forget that he had Russian spies dancing around in the oval office) should come and explain themselves in a House hearing........................................on the issue of their citizenship and the 320 rule:

https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/legal/travel-legal-considerations/us-citizenship/Child-Citizenship-2000-Sections-320-322-INA.html

...............................this just irks me to know end..........................

It wasn't enough that Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld screwed you over royally........ You didn't learn and still the masses in the military still voted for Trump and STILL are on his side despite the carnage he has wrought on the mass of the military men and women.

It truly is sad that Ignorance Should Be Painful, but it is worse that you get trashed by the Republicans, and yet stupidly keep voting for them en mass........

Now Trump and his group are trying to get the mail in votes by the Military not counted..............

What I wonder about is, do they think that they are going to win in 2020? Because all of these policies will be history five seconds after President Biden, Warren, Sanders, et. al take the oath of office. Or is this their gambit to win over racist voters in 2020? Trump's policies seem to be increasingly affecting more and more people and sooner or later they're all going to take a toll on several members of Trump's constituency, making it harder for them to win in 2020. Or maybe they are just so bats**t insane that they just don't care?

It was obvious that #TrumpHatesMilitaryFamilies when
he stole DoD money for his dumb fucking border wall,
especially since that could help renovate or rebuild fucked
up on-base housing, but rejecting citizenship for kids born
overseas to one or both military parents is abhorrent.”

To any vets or active military members who still support this
fucking coward, you're fucking disgraceful idiots.

This piece of shit is not why we served, and he's betraying
all of us who were braver than he could ever be.”

Trump hates all families, including his own.

He cares only about himself.

Impeach the Motherfucker.”

Trump supporters, get this through your head, that fact Trump's
plan "only applies to non-citizens SERVING in our military" doesn't
make the plan or your support of it any more disgusting or unforgivable.”

TrumpHatesMilitaryFamilies” has been trending high for NINE HOURS now.

THANK YOU, AMERICA

If you know your child might be snatched up off the streets by ICE when you get back to the states why join? All ICE would have to do is sit and wait outside a base and pick up our children.

See how he has expanded the terror?

First it was illegal immigrants, then it was legal immigrants and now it is children of military members. Who is next? Children of citizens returning from overseas vacations or work?

Maybe he should deport his Slovenian sex worker first. She lied on her application for citizenship....if she has a degree and speaks 4 languages fluently then I'm the chosen one. She kind of has a squint, maybe bad plastic surgery. She's Slav and Nazis really don't like Slavs either. So, Traitor Trump should deport her before he deports the children of military members.

The ceaseless hypocrisy and abject cruelty of the Trumps continues to astound.

but I don't forget - I don't want to forget - that diplomats ,civilians supporting military overseas, and other Americans working for the Government elsewhere than within our states and territories (I suppose he'll go after territories next) are also affected by this idiotic piece of non-statesmanship.

I don't know whether he can do it without congress, though I fear he can - if it's a "rule" or a "policy" rather than a "law," maybe he can. But Congress cold certianly change that - or rather, could, if McConnell would ever bring anything to the floor besides his shoulder.

"Why did I serve?" And even worse, "Why did I volunteer to serve?"

And I'm serious - I have thought that. I volunteered and served in an armor battalion with the 1st Infantry Div. As an officer.

And now I ask, "Why? What the hell was it for...? To wind up with....Trump?"

our way of life. Now our President is telling people who are exercising their free speech to leave the country if he doesn't like what they have to say, telling people to break our laws he doesn't respect, and slamming the door on our very families who protect our Constitution. And he has an attorney general helping him do it, and an entire chamber of Congress allowing it to happen, as though the Constitution means nothing to any of them.

I am absolutely flabbergasted that anyone who has ever taken the oath and picked up arms on behalf of this country is supporting any of this tyranny.

When these families return to the US, are they expected to apply for citizenship for their children ? Will they have to go before an immigration judge and plead their case ? Will they be rejected ? Then what ?

As a veteran, and the relative of veterans who had children overseas, this about makes my head explode.

trump does not always understand or think through the ramifications of his mandates, but stephen rat-fuck miller knows EXACTLY what he's doing. I would love to see him . . . gone.

VoteVets, and the Modern Military Association of America, OK; but the two groups above are the really big dogs here.

And their silence screams a crap-ton! Esp. after that obese draft-dodging serial-liar STOOD UP IN FRONT OF THEM last week and said he thought of giving himself the Medal of Honor. As if the insults to McCain were not enough. That that entire room didn't immediately empty out after hearing that...? Like they would have "If Obama had said that..."!

Amazing how people don't give a damn about other people's pain, no matter how hideous, how cruel it is. I bet some of the same people who are now worried their kids are not citizens never gave a peep about the caged kids.

that Asshole45 desperately does not want to be re-elected. With Russia continuing to meddle in our elections, the only way he will be defeated is if there is an overwhelming turnout for the dem candidate. So he keeps coming up with more outrageous "policies" to offend and turn off his supporters. He's pretty much lost the farmers, the educated repubs, now the military. The only ones he still has are the very rich and those who can barely fog a mirror, and probably old white guys. The old white guys will probably turn away as well since he said doing away with Medicare and Social Security are going to be on his to do list during his second term.

Military life is a service to the nation, and involves a lot of personal sacrifice especially for military families stationed outside the country.
Now the Trump administration is thinking of denying their children citizenship?
It'll never hold up in court. Even Trump appointed judges won't go for that one.
But, it will cause a lot more anxiety, and fear in the ranks.
We need to remove that abomination from the White House, and cleanse the nation of the putrid stain of his presence there.
I can't imagine a better way for Trump to lose the military vote.
But then, many of our military personnel use absentee ballots that don't get counted for one reason or another anyway...usually because of the time it takes to get them out to the people overseas, and back to their home voting district.
It's just one more example of how little Trump cares for the citizens of this country in general, and the military in particular.
