Donald Trump cannot win the 2020 election. Anyone who thinks he can is misguided, or a total fool.
However, "lost votes," "switched votes," preventing "the wrong" people from voting, and the built-in "fix" of gerrymandering, can give the maniac another four years through the electoral college.
As of now, our democracy is surviving because the majority of us believe he will lose in 2020 and we can, (over years), repair and rebuild what he has damaged and destroyed.
But what if he gets another four years? IMO, if the election is stolen, American democracy is over.
Regarding what we do about this is a question to be left until after the 2020 election.
But one thing I know for certain. A sane country cannot allow another stolen election stand.

(11,686 posts)If trump cheats his way in again that means Obama will have been our last true president. Trump will have 4 more years to screw the system more and part of that will be making sure he takes over for life.

It accomplished nothing at all.

(6,085 posts)the short answer is - nothing
What did we do after Bush v Gore? nothing, we impotently let that war criminal assume the presidency not once but twice!
After Bush v Kerry
After Clinton v Dump
The American people have no belly for confrontation and real fights, even with all that has happened, we still cannot impeach the monster
I marched my feet off during the Iraq War in Wash DC so much so I tore all the ligaments in my ankles
Marching got us nothing
It will be a real test of our mettle, do we want democracy or not? If we are not willing to put skin in the game, then be ready to kiss it goodbye.

(15,035 posts)We saw what happened while Hitler was seizing power and the German people did nothing.
Will the American people stand by and do nothing? I can't help but agree with you. Aside from "Marching in the streets," I see no indication that Americans will do whatever is necessary to defeat the evil that has descended on us.
Were these evil bastards to once again steal the presidency, I would hope that it will be the final straw. But I really don't have much confidence in this happening.
I guess we'll have to wait and see. And also hope that the Dem candidate wins the election.

(22,569 posts)It's not going to happen.
There is absolutely no substitute for getting out and voting in massive numbers for the Democratic candidate, whoever that is. Because we didn't do that in 2016, because we didn't bother to put skin in the game that only involved getting out to vote, Trump won. If we cannot learn from the lesson of that election, what hope is there? It's a good thing we have the Russians and the Republicans as scapegoats for our loss otherwise we might have to look at ourselves.
But come election day there is only 1 thing left for us to do--get out and vote.
Yes, some votes will be suppressed, some will be miscounted, but we can overwhelm that with a massive voter turnout.

(9,895 posts)There would no longer be a functional union to preserve at that point, so it would be time to rally like-minded people to form a new government, invite those who are allies in the fight for a representative republic (and SHUN those in favor of a theocratic fascist state), and proceed to starting over - hopefully incorporating universal human rights, progressive ideals and an improved Constitution that would not include Citizen's United, limitations to Roe v Wade, or any of the myriad of loopholes and assumed norms that Trump has abused.
The concept of America is still one of the greatest ideas to come from mankind, period. The execution of the concept is currently on life-support, but we can revive it!

(9,895 posts)Look at Haiti and the Dominican Republic as an example of what I envision happening to the USA...
One half of the country will be in a progressive-dominated ("Blue State" governing majority and the other will be in a theocratic fascist state ("Red State" majority hellhole. There will be people of opposing political views left to make a choice between accepting a terrible reality instead of picking up and moving to a better alternative.
So not necessarily neighborhood by neighborhood...but ideologically some states will cease to be comfortable for those choosing to live in areas against their political persuasions.
Myself would be among them...I live in Red State hell right now...all GOP up and down the government here in East Kansas. If the country split and my metro area was not somehow carved into a contiguous USA map, then I would have to choose to stay with the hill jacks I despise, or move on to another area and start over with people of similar respect for science, rational thought and progressive ideals.

(24,412 posts)is work for a massive GOTV effort in 2020 that will result in a win that is so massively lopsided (in our favor) that Trump can't even remotely credibly claim that it was "rigged" or "fraudulent" ( although as long as we fight and win fair and square, it doesn't matter by how much).
We CANNOT keep having these weird elections where the winner of the PV doesn't also win the EV. It just doesn't make much sense how this happens, and it eats it away at our faith in our election system. And, coincidentally, it's only happened twice in the nearly 20 years, both following a two-term Democratic President.

(22,569 posts)at what point are you no longer a victim but just a chump?
We have over a year to prepare. Somehow there are untold millions of dollars for all of these campaigns, but how about some millions to make sure those who need IDs to vote have them, to make sure that everybody who needs to be registered to vote is registered, to make sure that anyone who needs a ride to the polls has it, or anyone who needs childcare in order to vote has that.
Excuses and whining after the fact are simple, but making sure people can vote is hard work so let's do it and get out the vote for the Democratic candidate--no excuses, pouting, or purity tests, just do it.

(22,569 posts)You need to spend money to get out the vote, to enable people to have whatever it is they need to get out and vote. None of that has anything to do with power,
but it has everything to do with people on the ground in every state and hard work and money for them to do that work.

I almost can't get excited about the elections, because of anxiety over this. And I don't believe these bad actors will stop, unless every precinct has eyes watching the results. I do think it will be contested.

(9,653 posts)we all watched him melt down on tv because the screens never got switched to show his pre determined result he thought they had programmed in
but obamas team defeated him because they already had each and every precinct counted...they knew what votes had come in and what areas where out and they knew Obama had they votes
whoever our candidate is, they need to duplicate that
you can help by counting your own precinct and then monitor your polling place at closing
we need to all be the eyes and ears our democratic candidate will need (is way better than getting kent stated in the streets)

(3,491 posts)So my guess is, nothing. 🤷♂️
The people who could ostensibly prove it are in power, tens of millions of people would be in favor of the result and most people are such wage slaves that they cant afford to shut down the country.
If they steal it next year the country as we knew it is over.
Sorry to be a downer.
