Neil Cavuto Torches Trump for Whining About Fox News: You're Not Entitled to Our Loyalty

Neil Cavuto Torches Trump for Whining About Fox News: You’re Not Entitled to Our Loyalty
“I don’t work for you. My job is to cover you, not fawn over you or rip you, just cover you,” Cavuto said.

Fox News anchor Neil Cavuto on Thursday fired back at President Donald Trump over his persistent whining about Fox News of late, telling the president that he is not entitled to undivided loyalty from the network and should not expect to get a “free pass.”

Noting at the end of his Fox News broadcast on Thursday that Trump had complained earlier in the day to Fox & Friends host Brian Kilmeade that he was not happy with the conservative-leaning network, Cavuto said that he thinks it’s “weird” that Trump complains about Fox because the channel gives him “pretty fair coverage.”

“But the president making clear to fact-check him is to be all but dead to him and his legion of supporters who let me know in no uncertain terms I am either with him totally or I am a Never-Trumper bully,” the Fox host stated. “There are no grays. No middle grounds. You are either all in or you’re just out. Loyal on everything or not to be trusted on anything.”

Pointing out that the president has recently urged his supporters to stop watching Fox News because the network’s no longer working for him, Cavuto declared that his job is not to appease the president.

“First of all, Mr. President, we don’t work for you,” Cavuto declared. “I don’t work for you. My job is to cover you, not fawn over you or rip you, just cover you. Call balls and strikes. Our job is to keep score, not settle scores.”

The longtime Fox News personality then went on to highlight a number of Trump’s false statements, flip-flops, and outright lies, letting Trump know that checking what the president says is part of his job.

“These aren’t fake items,” Cavuto said after listing off a bunch of the president’s most notorious comments. “They are real items and you really said them, just like you never paid to silence a porn star until it turns out you did.”

pretend to not be the propaganda arm of the GOP and Trump and also to try and save themselves if Trump loses.
Save themselves from what? Well at a guess I would say its probably the fear that the next Democrat in office might ask to the DOJ to do a complete investigation over the close relationship Fox and its people had with Trump.
If that happens I am willing to bet that a number of people over at Fox would be going to prison for atleast a few years.

Both Smith and Wallace really seem to anger Trump cultists. It's amusing to watch them complain about how "liberal" fox news is because someone like Smith said something rational. Even before Trump I recall them freaking out over Shepard's take down of the various falsehoods in the Uranium One story.

The reporters he insults on fox NEVER defend themselves also "regular" fox news during the day never mention these insults. It is ALWAYS the opinion people who come out wirh this sort of push back.

I also would not be surprised if cavuto previews this to higher up before broadcast.

Interesting though in the sense that back in the day when real journalists, as opposed to mindless spinning pundits, were actually reporting the news, people used to monitor Pravda to discern the internal machinations of the Communist party in Russia.

If it is true that Fox News is turning on Trump - I wouldn't dream of watching propaganda - this is interesting insight to the deeper thinking of the extreme right wing.

32. TrumpTV trying to pretend they're "objective."

From MediaMatters:

Fox was founded on a con. The network claimed to be the only outlet providing an honest review of the news of the day without liberal bias, epitomized by its slogan “fair and balanced.” At the same time, it effectively served as an arm of the Republican Party, smearing Democrats while both helping to elect Republicans and pushing them to emulate the cutting, hyperpartisan style of its biggest stars.

In the decades since, Fox executives have consistently pushed back against criticism by arguing that while the network’s “opinion” hosts are conservative, it also features a “news” division which produces objective journalism like other media outlets.

This is largely farcical -- Fox’s purported “news” hours feature much of the same disinformation as its “opinion” hours. But they provide the appearance of similar programming on other networks, with interviews of members from both major parties, reports from correspondents, and panel discussions.

That image is essential to maintaining the network’s business model. Fox draws a sizable audience that comes for its core product of right-wing propaganda undergirded by bigotry and conspiracy theories. But major advertisers are rightfully uncomfortable associating their own brands with such content, and in recent months, dozens of companies have abandoned the network’s most-watched shows, sending Fox’s overall ad inventory into a tailspin. Fox executives have sought to keep advertisers from abandoning the network altogether by stressing the credibility of the network’s “news” division.
