So What Is The State Of The Race?
By this time in every presidential election since 1968 I had a clear idea of who the eventual winner would be. I try not be a homer when it comes to my favorite sports teams or political party.
The president is clinging to a small lead in the popular vote and the Electoral College but a shift of just a point or two in the popular vote would shift the Electoral College.
The lion's share of models show the president winning.
I don't think the debates will change much unless Romney makes a major gaffe. That will bury him. It is incumbent upon him to prove he's up to job. As to the president he just needs to show up. Kerry used Bush* as a punching bag in two of the three elections and still lost.
As an aside Romney has the same problem Kerry had in 2004. I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned more. Kerry was in the position of having to hammer an opponent for getting us in a war he ,himself, previously supported and Romney is in the position of opposing health care reform that he was the father of.
As they said about Kerry and the Iraq War, Romney was for a mandate before he was against it.
Good times....
Fingers crossed...
