Shane Kohfield stood outside the home of Portlands mayor in July wearing body armor and a Make America Great Again baseball cap, a large knife strapped to one shoulder and a copy of his concealed weapons permit displayed on the other.
Using a loudspeaker, he warned the right-wing activists who turned out to condemn the citys handling of recent violent demonstrations that they needed to protect themselves against their anti-fascist, or antifa, rivals.
If antifa gets to the point where they start killing us, Im going to kill them next, Kohfield, 32, said. Id slaughter them and I have a detailed plan on how I would wipe out antifa.
That threat pushed the FBIs Joint Terrorism Task to take a series of extraordinary steps against Kohfield, including temporary seizure of a cache of his firearms under Oregons new red flag law aimed at preventing gun violence, The Oregonian/OregonLive has learned.
(More at link, including the fact that they had him committed for 20 days)
On edit: not meaning for this to be a gun discussion, just noting that the FBI is actually taking threats seriously.

(6,788 posts)it may not happen because they are so impaired they have to hear it to remember it. That really is a thing among the 75-89 IQ group. No disrespect to peaceful and simple folk.

(8,090 posts)bipolar, PTSD, drinking... this is a highly toxic mix. Is the VA equipped to handle these guys? No. And how many more are out there getting whipped into an antifa, "liberal government" frenzy? Fucking right-wing media pouring gasoline on the fire...

(29,322 posts)And a temporary drug & alcohol problem after I got out. I have been diagnosed with PTSD and occasional psychosis. The VA has taken good care of me though I never been one who had a desire to commit violence. I didn't want an infantry job or something similar so I wouldn't have to kill people. Ended up enlisting as an 88M.

Veteran stereotypes.
These guys...seriously?
BTW, the VA is uniquely equipped to handle these guys. Ask me how I know (betcha wont though).

(18,619 posts)Whether they're held under statute or booked as evidence, there's a mile of red tape to go through, even if they belong to someone else. It can take years and real money on lawyers, not to mention that cops tend to put in dibs on the expensive ones. I've seen it happen.
Just as well, this guy should never have them back.
