In his upcoming memoir, newly appointed Smithsonian Secretary Lonnie G. Bunch III describes the private tour he gave President Trump of the National Museum of African American History and Culture, recalling that Trumps reaction to the Dutch role in the global slave trade was, You know, they love me in the Netherlands.

(63,221 posts)Does he really believe this stuff or does he just want to believe it because he cannot stand the fact that he is the most hated man on the planet. The Dutch despise him, as do most Europeans. What is this bizarre little fantasy world that he lives in? I honestly do not think there is one person in the world that genuinely likes this man as a person.

Mark Rutte, the Dutch PM, is a Liberal conservative. Right of center but certainly not a right wing populist. The Dutch government does not love Trump, on the contrary.

(5,240 posts)The FfD is lead by Thierry Baudet who is an anti-immigrant rightwing populist. It's going to be tough going for Rutte. The VVD is a conservative party in the Netherlands, but compared to our parties it is very liberal.
