This could be worse than a direct hit...

If Dorian does what they're showing now, it could be worse than a direct hit on Florida.

Instead of taking out Central Florida, it's starting to look like it will spend the better part of next week or longer sucking water out of the Atlantic and dumping it on 4 states, Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas. Looking at rainfalls measured in feet in areas that have been waterlogged for months.

Throw in high winds, high surf, and storm surge and the whole Southeast Coastline is in jeopardy, including several miles or more inland.

Be safe, folks.

have software that compares historic storms, weather fronts, ect... not making landfall, hugging the coast didn't surprise me but slow movers can do just about anything, even loop around and hit the same areas twice. Only seen that happen once.

Several law enforcement agencies are telling people that bullets in hurricanes can return. They might also caution people what bullets in crowds of people does to living things. Only in America.

Shooting at Hurricanes is less dangerous than nukes. His mental illness is contagious.

we do get thunder storms and an occasional tornado. However we do not get bad weather like the south every year. I could not live where this happens every year.

Honestly didn't realize it was 25 years to the day that my husband and I moved here until I started typing.

Anyway, during that time, this is what I've experienced.

1994 - Tropical Storm Gordon
1995 - Hurricane Erin (TS winds with low Cat 1 gusts)
1999 - Hurricane Irene (TS winds) and a scare from Floyd, but it stayed off the coast
2004 - Hurricanes Frances and Jeanne within a few weeks of each other. Cat 1 with some Cat 2 gusts
2008 - Tropical Storm Faye
2016 - Hurricane Matthew (Cat 1 with some Cat 2 gusts)
2017 - Hurricane Irma (Cat 2 with some Cat 3 gusts)
2019 - Hurricane Dorian (no clue what the bastard's going to do)

So 8 years out of 25 we've had to deal with serious tropical weather. And the tropical storms aren't much more than an extended heavy rain storm you don't want to go outside in.

Honestly, over 25 years we've probably had about as much aggregate damage from severe thunderstorms that last an hour than we have from tropical events. My boss ended up with a new roof that made it through Matthew and Irma because of a hailstorm earlier this year.

I don't mean to minimize the situation. We are absolutely taking this extremely seriously and preparing well in advance. The slow progress of this storm has made preparation the easiest I've ever experienced. All the while my heart is breaking because I know the slow progress is obliterating the Bahamas.

But it definitely doesn't impact us every year. Yet.
