Walmart ends all handgun ammunition sales and asks customers not to carry guns into stores

https://www.cnn.com/2019/09/03/business/walmart-ends-handgun-ammo-sales/index.html

New York(CNN Business) Walmart on Tuesday announced it will reduce its gun and ammunition sales, one month after more than 20 people were killed in a mass shooting at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas. Walmart also pressured Congress to enact gun safety measures.

The company, America's largest retailer, said it will stop selling handgun ammunition and ammunition for short-barrel rifles after selling all of its current inventory. Walmart (WMT) will also stop selling handguns in Alaska, the only state where it still sells handguns. And Walmart will request that customers no longer openly carry guns into its 4,700 US stores, or its Sam's Club stores, in states that allow open carry.

However, Walmart will continue to sell long barrel deer rifles and shotguns and much of the ammunition for those guns. Walmart will also continue to allow concealed carry by customers with permits in its stores.

Who have been struggling since Trump was elected, what with the fear of Obama receding.

Now instead of going out of business, a ton of gun stores will have millions in new business.

The Walmarts near me mostly sell hunting guns and ammo anyway. Like Dick's, they haven't sold hand guns at all for as long as I can remember, nor do I recall ever seeing an assault rifle in the case.

Easy to give up something that they hardly do.

It's definitely not a be-all/end-all regarding the problem of gun violence here in the United States as a whole, but it's a big step in the right direction.

lost sales in the weeks following El Paso. If you had been in a Wally Fart Store after El Paso, you would have notice a major drop in Hispanic,African American and Asian Shoppers.

Store Employees were instructed to not mention anything about El Paso or answer any type of question in regards to lack of store traffic.

Wally, and that is because our other retailers don't stock them. And yes it was very obvious it was lost sales.

You can try to fool a old Grocery Guy about lost sales, but to many decades make him more than aware.

and they had just 2 lines open, I seen I would need to wait about 20 min so I returned the stuff and went elsewhere. Self checkout BS will be the death of stores like walmart.

There isn't much difference between seeing a major drop in Hispanic, African Americans and Asian shoppers at Wal-Mart and seeing the likeness of Jesus Christ in a piece of toast.

Humans are not rational creatures and we view the world in a way that supports our biases. Even if there is no evidence to support such biases.

Just not handgun ammo.

Ironically it appears this new policy will still allow the ammo used in the El Paso shooting to be sold
