I've been away from the news for awhile. What's this Trump Sharpie stuff all about?

I understand he embellished a weather map and showed it to the press. But why? What did it do for him? What was his sorry ass trying to prove by doing such a thing? That's the part I missed.

2. He mistakenly said Alabama was in the path of Hurricane Dorian.

Everyone made fun of him. So he insisted it WAS in the path of Dorian.

Everyone made fun of him again. So he staged a photo op of a hurricane briefing. He used a Sharpie to add a false portion to the real weather service/hurricane center map (which wasn't even the real current map at the time of the photo op -- he had to use a 4-5 day old one and it STILL didn't show what he had wanted, so he drew it on -- in an obvious, oafish manner).
