OFFS! Trump Bullies NOAA To Renounce The NWS Tweet Correcting Trump. This Guy's Mentally ILL!

This petty, little NUT CASE is willing to turn YOUR entire government upside down, rather than admit he made a SMALL MISTAKE. This is MENTAL ILLNESS, pure and simple.

Last week, Trump made a simple mistake when he tweeted that Alabama would be hit by Dorian. He was quickly (and PROPERLY) corrected by a tweet from the National Weather Service (NWS) saying Dorian would NOT hit Alabama. Rather than admit he was wrong, he went on a WEEK LONG TWITTER RANT about fake news.

It finally culminated in him:

1. Doctoring a map with a sharpie, to prove he was right

2. Forcing a Coast Guard Rear Admiral named Peter Brown to issue a statement that HE had shown Trump maps showing Alabama being hit by the hurricane, to prove he was right, And now...

3. ...Forcing the NWS's parent organization, the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) to issue a statement RENOUNCING the NWS's original tweet correcting Trump!

The NOAA's statement reads, in part...

"From Wednesday, August 28, through Monday, September 2, the information provided by NOAA and the National Hurricane Center to President Trump and the wider public demonstrated that tropical-storm-force winds from Hurricane Dorian could impact Alabama,...This is clearly demonstrated in Hurricane Advisories #15 through #41, which can be viewed on the center's website...

...The Birmingham National Weather Service's Sunday morning tweet spoke in absolute terms that were inconsistent with probabilities from the best forecast products available at the time."

In other words, the NWS was 'bad' to say there was "NO" chance of the hurricane hitting Alabama. I guess that's as far as those poor bastards at NOAA are willing to go to protect their jobs. But this is ABSOLUTE LUNACY!

4. Barry Myers

Barry Lee Myers is an American attorney and businessman who served as chief executive officer and general counsel for AccuWeather, a privately owned for-profit weather-forecasting company founded by his elder brother, Joel Myers.[1] As an AccuWeather executive, Myers lobbied unsuccessfully to restrict or undermine the National Weather Service, a governmental service which provides free weather forecasting and thus competes with AccuWeather's business model.[2]

Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere
Assuming office
TBD*
*Pending Senate confirmation

In 2017, Myers was nominated by President Donald Trump to lead the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).[3] Myers's nomination was controversial because he lacked scientific expertise (in contrast to previous NOAA leaders) and because of concern over Myers's financial conflicts of interest,[3][4] and as of April 2019 Myers's appointment had not been voted upon by the U.S. Senate. In 2018, a federal investigation found rampant, pervasive, and severe sexual harassment at AccuWeather, and determined that the company, under Myers's leadership, ignored the harassment and retaliated against victims who complained.[5][6]
...snip...

Prior to becoming CEO of AccuWeather in September 2007, Myers served as the company's executive vice president and general counsel. Since 1990, Myers has been a member of the board of directors of the American Weather and Climate Industry Association,[8] the weather industry's trade association, serving as the industry's chief federal-relations office. Myers also served as an advisor to the director of the U.S. National Weather Service at the U.N.'s World Meteorological Organization Meetings in Geneva, Switzerland, in 2001 and 2008.[9]

Political activities

Myers has donated to the campaigns of Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, and Mitt Romney.[10] Myers also donated to Rick Santorum's campaigns for U.S. Senate.[10] In 2005, Santorum sponsored a bill entitled the National Weather Service Duties Act of 2005, which failed to pass.[10][11] Myers publicly supported the bill, which would have required the National Weather Service to stop providing weather information to the general public.[10]

On January 6, 2019, it was announced that Myers had departed AccuWeather on January 1 and had sold all his interest in the company to move into a role leading the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration under President Trump.[12]

Nomination to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
Edit
On October 12, 2017, President Donald Trump nominated Myers to head the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.[13] Myers has said he will liquidate his holdings in the family-owned company.[10] His brothers will remain as the president, chairman of the board, and chief operating officer of AccuWeather.[10] At his confirmation hearing, opponents of his confirmation hearing pointed out that the family connection would still represent a major conflict of interest.[14]

Myers was selected for the Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere position by Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross.[10] Myers's deputies will include Assistant Secretary for Oceans and Atmosphere Timothy Gallaudet, a Navy Rear Admiral with a doctorate in oceanography, and Assistant Secretary for Environmental Observation and Prediction Neil Jacobs, who was chief atmospheric scientist at the Panasonic Avionics Corporation.[15] If confirmed, Myers will be the second NOAA administrator without a science degree, and the first since Richard A. Frank left office in 1981.[16] The agency employee's labor union opposes Myers nomination, citing his support of the Santorum bill.[10]

His nomination was returned to President Trump by the Senate on January 3, 2018,[17] resubmitted on January 8, returned on January 3, 2019,[18] and resubmitted on January 16.[19]

America, meet your president with the Hare Psychopathy Checklist...
Definition
The Hare Psychopathy Checklist-Revised (PCL-R) is a diagnostic tool used to rate a person's psychopathic or antisocial tendencies. People who are psychopathic prey ruthlessly on others using charm, deceit, violence or other methods that allow them to get [away] with [what] they want. The symptoms of psychopathy include: lack of a conscience or sense of guilt, lack of empathy, egocentricity, pathological lying, repeated violations of social norms, disregard for the law, shallow emotions, and a history of victimizing others.

Originally designed to assess people accused or convicted of crimes, the PCL-R consists of a 20-item symptom rating scale that allows qualified examiners to compare a subject's degree of psychopathy with that of a prototypical psychopath. It is accepted by many in the field as the best method for determining the presence and extent of psychopathy in a person.

The Hare checklist is still used to diagnose members of the original population for which it was developed— adult males in prisons, criminal psychiatric hospitals, and awaiting psychiatric evaluations or trial in other correctional and detention facilities. Recent experience suggests that the PCL-R may also be used effectively to diagnose sex offenders as well as female and adolescent offenders.

In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:

Killing members of the group;
Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
Forcibly transferring children of the group to another
group.

All of these points definitely apply in my opinion.

Frumpy is a danger to himself and others. Every day I have to practice mindful breathing to keep from staying in a constant state muscle bending stress. I was physically ill election night and it's been a going concern ever since.

The problem there is that none of the projections extended that far north or west. And none would because there was high pressure blocking a route that far west. But strange things can happen with weather so a 1% chance could have existed, perhaps.

The problem here is that at the time of the statement about Alabama, the entire track had already been changed to recurve around to coast of FL. I.e., the infamous sharpie-modified cone chart of the system's track (which is not the same as the wind probabilities cones) was already long-depreciated on the day the incident occurred.

doubling/tripling/quadrupling down. People give him ways to "save face" and he continually throws it away in a bluster and tantrum - forcing gullible others to defend the childish display.

And the guy currently heading up NOAA is the brother of the founder of Accuweather and used to work there as a VP. I know that both Accuweather and The Weather Channel have had continual and ridiculous feuds with each other and with the NWS - often "in public" as reflected in numerous nasty articles that they have published on their websites over the years during and after certain weather events, and IMHO it's juvenile.

This is an obvious "revenge" move against the NWS by a former Accuweather exec. who now oversees them.

The NWS is not a "business". It is paid for by taxpayer dollars as a public organization and public service, and it behooves that for-profit weather entities Accuweather and TWC quit the shit. The one thing that the NWS does having going for it IS a "deep pocket" - which means creation of publicly-available weather modeling suites, access to thousands of weather/environmental monitoring stations, and other resources (like the Hurricane Hunters when needed, that operate out of both NOAA and the Air Force) to help feed data into the American models every day, 24/7/365.

The kicker here is that the founders - his brother Dr. Joel Meyers and Elliot Abrams (the meteorologist) are Philly natives and mets who were well-respected back when they helped to develop Accuweather in the '60s. The headquarters of Accuweather is located near Penn State University in State College, PA, and both Penn State & Rutger's University in NJ have world renowned met programs. Abrams literally just retired from Accuweather a few months ago.

But then as we moved into the '80s and an era of rampant politicization and demonization of government, including the introduction of Raygunomics, and a major ramping up of "for-profit" branding and use of new business models when it came to weather forecasting, it all went down hill - and especially when new for-profit competitors like The Weather Channel came into existence. The creation of the world wide web on the internet, although offering new and unprecedented public access to various weather-related info, also served as a platform for magnifying disagreements in the science of weather forecasting, and that further increased the rancor between the "competitors" - not unlike what you see with the traditional news/entertainment/sports media - all in a race to gain market share and "get more eyeballs and ears" to consume their products.

Weather has been a 50-year hobby for me and it is just sad to see this happening, although in retrospect, I realize that we were building up to this point over the past 20 years anyway.

(although technically it's the VP that manages it day-to-day) and NOAA as well as their child agency NWS, is in the Executive Branch. NOAA itself reports to the Department of Commerce, a Department from as far back as the Clinton administration, that the GOP has been trying to eliminate (and the GOP had to be reminded that both the Census Bureau and NWS were under DOC).

Executive/Legislative/Judicial. Malfeasance in the Executive can be investigated/dealt with by either or both the Legislative Branch and the Judicial Branch. And oddly enough, it is more stable than the Parliamentary system (IMHO) where sudden upheavals within that system result in sudden "forming of new governments" and scrambling for "coalitions" to get there - see the UK troubles with Johnson as an example.

What is feckless here is the money that has been allowed to severely corrupt the system - notably since the 2010 Citizen's United decision, because it then negatively impacts the Legislative Branch's ability to carry out meaningful (vs bullshit) oversight.
