How do I get those notices from websites popping in from the right side of my screen

to stop?

It doesn't matter if I am I am on at work or DU or a movie, they are annoying and I am afraid they are going to get me in trouble at work if I am presenting something. They used to happen only rarely, but lately they have been coming fast and furious and I don't know how to get rid of them.

Does anyone have any advice? Thanks in advance!

Please post the answer and I'll try to figure it out, even though I'm not too good with this stuff.

Also, can you please describe the notices?

They are from yahoo, health websites, random news websites, etc. They are links to stories on the websites they are from, not ads. Sometimes I don't even look at where they are from because I just want to get rid of them quickly. I don't know why they seem to have picked up lately, but they are so annoying. Thank you!

sometimes I get a weird popup that asks if I would like to receive "notifications" from a particular website I am on, and it forces me to manually opt out, which I always do.

It sound like these things are just popping up for you. That leads me to relate them to these notification thingies that I am always being asked to approve. I'm not sure how to stop those specifically, but I do use Adblock and I don't receive them. I'll do a bit more quick research to see what I can find...

For instance, I just recently got one for Food and Wine. They weren't selling me anything, it was just an article from the magazine.

you can adjust your settings in your browser...

if you use another browser, search "how to stop notifications in *browser name*.

Good luck!

I was getting all sorts of annoying pop ups and someone recommended I upgrade to a Star membership. I don’t like getting pushed into joining anything, but I do spend a lot of time here so I did it. I wouldn’t say it’s gotten rid of everything, but I notice a huge difference if I get in and have not logged in yet to be recognized.

You need notifications turned off at the browser and/or OS level is
what that sounds like.

Search on turn off notifications using those missing details too in the search.

When you go to many websites, a pop-up will appear asking if you want to get notifications about new articles, etc, and there is typically a place to click to allow or block. If you allow, then whenever you have your browser open, and they have something to share, you will get a little notification pop up.

it's driving me crazy, it dings every time one pops up and you have get rid of it two times before it goes and then shortly another one and another one.

I have tried everything to shut off these things and nothing works.

21. Numerous websites drop down a box when you open their page(s)
Sat Sep 7, 2019, 06:41 PM
Sep 2019

The box asks if you want notifications from their site. When you click the "yes" button you then receive push notifications from those sites and, probably, every other site within their networks.

It's easy to accidentally click that yes button. They're often subtle and, for some, difficult to distinguish from those stupid GDPR cookie warnings that plague the internet.

It's a shitty marketing trick that's no less than opt-in malware.
