<snip>
Thats why you got a night of coverage last night mocking Clint Eastwoods brilliant performance mocking President Obama as an empty chair. Inside the Washington bubble, which travels with them to these events, theyve never heard such things at Georgetown cocktail parties.
<snip>
Thats why you get todays media meme Clint Eastwood was a huge flop last night.
In the convention hall, Eastwood talking to an empty chair was huge hit. In homes across the country, the reaction was the same. Inside the bubble is the only place it wasnt well received.

Last night, Clint Eastwood not only made a lot of people's day, he made a difference in this election. As a conservative, I feel lucky to have had him on that stage...punk.

(4,404 posts)Side note: isn't the Daily News a lefty paper? I mean, I know that they can have a righty blogger or two and still be a dem paper, but in general...
I read the Daily News every night, just for laughs. It's more a tabloid that puts a sensationalistic spin on just about every story they cover. Lots of pics, celebrity coverage. I've never noticed anything particularly left- leaning about them.

(4,404 posts)But it always (back then anywho...) seemed liked the "alternative side" to the NY Post. Maybe it's changed over the years.
Or maybe I just have a bad memory.

(60,212 posts)Legendary Hollywood tough guy Clint Eastwood brought down the house with a comic turn Thursday night at the Republican National Convention, telling America its time to give a stellar businessman a chance to become president and say goodbye to the "attorney."
I think it may be time for somebody else to come along and solve the problems, he said to loud applause.
His stand-in for the "attorney," President Obama, was an empty chair on stage that he addressed in a mock interview -- a performance both awkward and uproarious, while being perfectly Clint.

(19,458 posts)Wow they really work that spin. ROFL. Every single Republican I personally know (and I know many) admit that it was a fail. A lot of them are saying that it doesn't matter, or he's such a big star just having him there is bigger than his screw-up, but still they know it was horrible.

(9,385 posts)Not only last night, but still today as well. Nice try, but no cigar.
P.S. I retweeted a whole bunch of the tweets as they came in last night, the ones that I thought were funny, for about two hours or so and some more today. Just a random sampling, it was hilarious fun. (At the same time btw, I had the convention on.). Here's my page, you can see for yourself the ones I saved. It's quite a few of them.

Here's the Clint Eastwood stream... https://twitter.com/#!/search/clinteastwood
Here's InvisibleObama... https://twitter.com/#!/search/invisibleobama
And Eastwooding... https://twitter.com/#!/search/eastwooding
They're still coming in. So I don't know who this right-winger (I forgot his name) thinks he's fooling.

(32,074 posts)These are the same people who claim that the opinions and endorsements of Hollywood celebrities are meaningless. Aren't these the same assholes who have spent the past decade mocking celebrities? So, liberals are supposed to somehow be threatened and panicked if one of these meaningless people uses bad performance art to bash President Obama?

(18,671 posts)about enjoying all the chair threads, but no more! Also, the schadenfreude I felt last night was carefully balanced with the knowledge that the Republicans could steal another election if we don't show up to vote. The polls are too close for my liking, even though it looks good for our President. That being said, no sane person could possibly think that Clint Eastwood's speech was nothing less than embarrassing. I feel sorry for him and choose to remember him for his movies, not for last night's fiasco, though I will still enjoy the chair tweets. Been a rough week, so humor is most welcome.

(25,415 posts)I highly doubt Romney and his team think it was a successful speech. And it gave birth to #invisibleObama and #eastwooding. It was not a success. It was a WTF moment in politics. Some Romney guys went off the record and said they had no idea what the chair was for. No one on that team vetted Eastwood first. That is who wants to run our country.
