I see this in comments on DU more frequently. I don't see "Old White Women" mentioned at all.....I guess because that might get one banned from DU or at least an alert or two for the Jury to decide.
What bothers me is that sometimes it's prefaced with "Angry" Old White Men....but not prefaced with defining the Politics of the "Old White Men or "Angry" Old White Men.
We Democrats here on DU need to be very careful with these broad statements that reek of "Ageism Discrimination."
There are many "Old White Men and Old White Women" who are long time Democratic Voters who vote in huge numbers CONSISTENTLY ...not just in the Presidential Elections...but for EVERY SINGLE state and Local Election.
Older Democrats (and Repugs) have the time to READ and the time to be more informed from a wide variety of sources (if they seek to) and to throw out a group of people because of their age would seem to be getting into territory that most Dems have always been against in the decades of the 20th Century and now our new 21st Century.
I would hope that the Democratic Party would not just be Positioning Itself....as the "Party of the YOUNG."
But, that's what this long time DU'er is picking up from what I read ....Not only Here...but, around the web in "comments" on Dem sites.
Just saying.....I don't think alienating a group of people because they are not "Young" is a good idea for our Party or this website.

(30,947 posts)I see a lot of ageism here at DU. I am just happy I made to the age of 73 and hope to live at least 10 more years. And all you younger people better hope you live as long as I have with no serious health issues.

(2,431 posts)Adding a hyphen might indicate that the words "old" and "white" refer more to ideas than they do to physical age.
I am now reminded of this...

I am 60 years old.
It also references a image from the Simpson's seen on the DU Home Page.

(22,308 posts)I want equality for all much more than I want to exploit the privileges that I was born to.
I won't apologize for having used it and I plan on using it again whenever it seems appropriate.

(21,675 posts)of course, there are some good old white men, but the angry ones usually fill the ranks of the GOP. i would think that the OP understands this...

(8,994 posts)In truth, they're the life blood of the GOP, but it's also not fair to just piss on the whole demographic.
The Plutocracy has done a great job of dividing us already...

As a middle aged white male, I'll be there soon myself. I wouldn't get too offended by it, personally.
That said, I do see your point. Not every "55 plus" white male is a Republican. Far from it.
Plus, the "young" always mistrust the "old". That's a trend that I don't think is EVER going to go out of style!

(16,984 posts)...and have gotten really sick of how the media treat every poll as an excuse to lapse into cognitive distortions based on a few variations in percentage points.
Here's an interesting look at the trends within generations -- the "Greatest Generation," the Silent Generation, baby boomers, Gen X, and Millennials.

(2,715 posts)1.) I think it really depends on the concept of "old." I'm pretty sure we can quickly come up with an agreement as to what "white" constitutes (even if my ancestors on my father's side weren't listed as such...)
2.) I know a few republicans. They seem to be more afraid of the memes surrounding Democrats, then they are happy/excited about their candidates. (Mind you, the republicans I get along with, peg me as a wannabe Franklin, so there may be a certain amount of free-form nostalgia ruling their collective mental roosts...)
3.) I don't see how the Republican party can maintain its current form, for more than about 10 years.
