Trump on states canceling 2020 primaries, despite 3 GOP primary challengers:

'They are a joke. They are a laughingstock. ... states don't want to waste their money.'

Marchais was the head of the Stalinist-oriented PCF for a long time. Living in a fancy mansion, he nevertheless put himself out there as the proletariat's great defender. When asked if he would cede power if elected president and then lost the next election, he just said, "why would anyone ever want to vote us out of power?"

Famous for his Stalinist bent, Marchais was spitting out Trumpisms before they were ever Trumpisms. The Republicans took on a Stalinist hue long ago. It's just that now they see less and less reason to deny it.

As Stalin was reputed to have put it: "Those who cast the votes decide nothing. Those who count the votes decide everything."

Or, as 21st Century Republicans put it:

for their own, during the 1860 election 10 deep-south states refused to put his name, or any other Republican candidates', on their ballots. For the most part Southern conservatives of those days were just fine with having state governments strip everyone's right to decide for themselves. Lincoln and the newest big anti-slavery Republican Party were loathed, similar to the way Democrats are today.

It'll be interesting to see if there's any significant change 160 years later.

(Btw, those states were Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas. Except for TN, I remember them as the hurricane states.)
