Tropical Storm Warning Issued for NW Bahamas for System

Just days after the area suffered devastating damage from Hurricane Dorian, a tropical storm warning was issued for the northwestern Bahamas for a system that was expected to become a tropical depression or storm.

The National Hurricane Center issued the warning Thursday evening for the system, Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine, which had maximum sustained winds of 30 mph as it moved to the northwest about 235 miles southeast of Great Abaco Island.

The disturbance was forecast to become a tropical depression or tropical storm as early as Friday as it moved over the northwestern Bahamas, the NHC said.

The system was forecast to move along or over the east coast of central Florida on Saturday.
