Students loans, medical debt and privilege and wealth
People here have spent a lot of time judging and/or condemning poor people that cannot pay their student loans while also praising/defending a rich and privileged person that is not in the least remorseful about what she did. Only that she got caught.
Ms.Huffman said to the judge in a letter:
In my desperation to be a good mother I talked myself into believing that all I was doing was giving my daughter a fair shot, the actress .
"Fair shot"?!? Her daughter's entire life is one of privilege and wealth. She was born into a life of opportunity that most children only dream or read about.
Huffman saw an opportunity to screw over poor people by using that wealth and privilege to get something she was not able to get on her own merit and thereby fill a spot that someone legitimately deserved.
At the same time people demean or judge the circumstances that might lead a person into a situation in which the weight of debt far exceeds their ability to ever actually pay it off. Some of the talking points are right off fox when it comes to student loans and even medical debt. It's a little disturbing to say the least.
