There's also a short interview of him recounting an incident during the war -



Mr. Brooks was in his 30s during WW2. I know my dad was also in WW2 and was 19 when drafted in 1943... and of course (unfortunately) both were required to serve in segregated units because of their race. My dad was in the 473rd Amphibious Truck Company, which was also operating in the Pacific Theater like Mr. Brooks.

My dad was a USN WW II veteran. He served as a Radioman in a jungle radio station on the Amazon River. The station was intercepting German U-Boat transmission. During the battle(s) in North Africa, the German U-Boats were active in the south Atlantic sinking troop and supply ships. During those months there were additional listening stations along the eastern shores of South America. Those stations would triangulate the locations on the U-Boats and would dispatch flying torpedo armed aircraft to sink the U-Boats.
