Here's what Google says concerning News specifically...

Top news, for everyone
Algorithms pick subjects for these sections by language and region:
Full coverage Full coverage
Search results
Headline news
In your app, Headlines Headlines
In your app, Headline stories in your briefing
On Google News, Headlines stories in Top stories Top stories
In these sections, people using the same language and region see the same subjects covered.

(22,541 posts)5. Doh! I was going to respond with exactly that.
I found the answer...wait for it...by googling the OP's question. It was too simple and didn't require a new DU thread.

(13,769 posts)7. Well, I guess that's not as bad as it could be. I wonder what I'm missing by not seeing...
... things that people in other "regions" do? Are they countries? Continents? New England vs Mid Atlantic? Maybe I'll explore your URL and see if I can find out. Thanks!!!

Opera News becomes the most popular news app in the world

You can pick a variety of nations and languages supposing you want to see what people are reading on their cell phones in, say, Nigeria or South Africa.
It sure beats the hell out of U.S.A.'s 24/7 Trump news channels.
I don't watch television news at all and I've even got "Trump" on my trash-by-keyword list her on Democratic Underground.

(13,769 posts)8. I don't have a smart phone so I went to Opera.Blogs.com and chose desktop from...
... the menu. I'm afraid I was totally confused. Is there a simple way to tell me how to see the news from a desktop?

(38,302 posts)9. You may have to download an Opera browser for your desktop.
https://www.opera.com/
Opera News works as a stand-alone app on my phone, tablet, and chromebook.
I have desktop Opera browsers on my Windows and Linux machines.
In and of itself Opera News may not be a good reason to switch to an unfamiliar browser.
