In the late 70's or early 80's there was a poem/story about a baby who was not designated

as a girl or a boy. No pink or blue booties, no id when going to the bathroom, etc. This was long before gender neutrality. I cannot find this anywhere. Help?

I remember sitting in a meeting and a mom reading this poem. Most of us were very uncomfortable with the subject matter. However as a feminist I really liked it. Trying to track it down with no luck.

I have no idea on the real answer but that is what popped into my head so I "joke" reply.

But seriously thanks for being kind.

I remember it so vividly. As a feminist, I associated with it in a way others may have not. I could picture this child not being put into any of the stereotypical boxes and being free to do whatever he/she wanted. At this time it was not about sexual options but about total freedom to express ones identity as a human.

They seem to like the story but seem to think it is just a nice story. Which may be just fine.

It was a stupefying moment for me when it was read at a meeting I attended. I am not sure how others reacted but it stuck with me and I wanted to share it but could not find it. I have never forgotten it.

Glad I could help. I know how frustrating it is to not be able to find or ID something that you can remember so clearly.
