For at least 2 years, this has been the mantra on DU for many posters. This, along with slams and smears of Nancy Pelosi and Dems in general.
Now, we have an impeachment inquiry.
I find it odd, to say the least, that now there are quite a few OPs on DU questioning this and espousing that we are being played by the Republicans. Because they, of course, are so much smarter than Pelosi and the rest of us.
What is it that you want? Impeachment? Or just to complain that it didn't happen?
Inquiring minds want to know.

Methinks some have prepared for this.

(35,282 posts)Those who were saying impeach impeach impeach
Are the same folk saying hold on a minute - they may be pulling something
DU is diverse so getting both points of view is the norm

(35,282 posts)Have been losing patience
I was glad to hear the news
And I'm thankful she has more nerve and patience than I do
But
When I heard the Senate voted UNANIMOUSLY!!!
That means something and needs to be explained
If not it may be a glaring blind spot
StarfishSaver
(18,486 posts)Do you expect McConnell to explain himself?
And what does that have to do with the Democrats pursuing impeachment? Is there any explanation of the Senate's action today that would make you think the Democrats should have held off?

We needed Orange Hitler to prime the way for a "real progressive" and not a "corporatist."

(25,456 posts)When their goals are met, they just move the goalposts.
That being said, the "Dems are weak" crowd seems pretty quiet today. I'm sure they'll be back to the bashing before long. Now that it's semi-official, I'm sure nothing will go quickly enough for them or in the order they see fit.
The good news is that it's a fairly small group of people. They're just rather...vocal.

(42,298 posts)I usually ignore it, really I do. But I was glued to the tube and media today, except for yoga and taking the dog for a nail trimming.
With all the trash thrown at our Speaker, this meant a lot today. Seeing the same old move the goalposts thing her just hurts.
We dealt with it for 8 years of President Obama, but still. This is so important, it really bothers me.
I think I need another episode of Ken Burns' Country Music.

The history in the series is marvelous. And the music is toe tapping.

(268,885 posts)and I do love Willie Nelson. I like some country - if you study Jamaican music history you'll find the country influence. Folks in the parishes in the north listened to radio stations in Cuba, Florida and Louisiana.

(42,298 posts)I'm of Irish descent and the Irish and Scottish influence is strong in country music. I love how the show weaves together that, and the African, Cajun and gospel influence.
So interesting.
We were discussing it on the weekend - a good friend was pointing out that the same music sung by a white person was country and by a black person was soul. He illustrated by pointing out that Whitney's cover of Dolly Parton's I'll always love you was even better than Dolly's version.

(42,298 posts)I love Dolly on the show. So many good country musicians. They make the series so relatable.

So this should be an excellent start for those who have been calling for Impeachment before the timing was right.
Thanks, mcar

(42,298 posts)But I'm betting that Pelosi and team have all their bases covered.
She wouldn't have gone forward with this if she didn't know what they've got.

The more charges the better and trump doesn't disappoint in that department.

(32,679 posts)were also demanding trump's impeachment, they're probably dealing with a little PTSD and can't believe things might finally be taking a turn for the better. From their perspective, it seems like everything is unfolding too easily, which is making them think it's a trick.
Meanwhile, my intuition says that everything that happened today is a GREAT thing. We will be victorious for putting fear aside and finally doing the right thing.
Also, it's not that it's happening too easily. The Senate is still full of deplorable rethugs, it's just that the rats are abandoning ship. They already looted the country and now it's time to return to normal order. When you view it from that perspective, it all makes sense and doesn't feel like a trick.

They aren't as smart as they think they are. Fact is, they all are rather complacent, as they believe themselves to be above the law.
I suspect each and every one of them will be surprised when the end comes.
My only problem is that Kelly Anne will be on TV every night spinning for all she's worth.

(1,977 posts)I will admit I am nervous that we might be getting played and I posted as much so I assume you are speaking about me? However, have you seen my calls for impeach now! Impeach Now! IMPEACH NOW!????
No. You havent.
Perhaps you are speaking about someone else.
Myself I am all for public hearings and investigations to show everything this corrupt administration has engaged in and have it played over and over again to the public. I believe that knowing what is in the complaint is important and I hope that what is in it is credible and that the information about it wasnt misleading. I do not trust republicans. Their sudden support makes me wary something is afoot. If that makes me a bad guy so be it. I prefer to remain skeptical until the goods have been delivered.
SlogginThroughIt
(1,977 posts)To add this is what I worry about: we had been making headway into investigations. The calendar looked full and I very much liked the direction it was going. Especially the emoluments stuff. And the along comes this latest iden ukrain thing and that meeting on emoluments was rescheduled. And IF this turns out to be nothing our credibility will be destroyed.
Dont get me wrong I love that we are entering impeachment. I just want it to be fruitful.
I cannot do another 4 years of Trump. I cannot raise my daughter through her adolescence into adulthood with this pig in office. I cannot raise my 7year old through some of his most formative years with this fuckface in office. Yeah I am nervous.
