I predicted it would be like an avalanche. It is starting to look like one now. Things are moving at lightning speed. Good luck everyone, Let's hope this is the end of Trump.

(6,110 posts)I really wish to see him defeated at the ballot box and listen to his concession speech.
That election is a mere 13 months away. The impeachment process could be slow.

(24,653 posts)I'm not sure his psychological makeup would allow him to do that. At least not without being under astounding duress.

(838 posts)I cannot imagine this trump's ego allowing him to resign. UNLESS it is somehow in his physical and financial best interest to do so. Can't imagine what such circumstances would look like, however.

(3,266 posts)days, but once it is explained to him that Pence cant pardon him for anything he gets impeached for, then his next best move is to resign to avoid impeachment- and take his chances in the courts. Remember hes used to fighting in the courts, and might be able to keep his taxes private that way, and draw out the legal process long enough to outlive it, literally.

(6,110 posts)He will do the same during the impeachment proceedings.

(26,044 posts)He knows that, the minute hes out of office, hes vulnerable to prosecution. Sure, he could cut a deal with Pence for an immediate pardon, but Trump has double-crossed so many people in deals before, I doubt hell be willing to even consider resigning when President Pence could easily change his mind the moment he takes his hand off that Bible.
Knowing Trump, its a sure bet hell hold on to power as long as he can
and that might even mean after an election loss in 2020 or the end of a second term in 2024.

(14,563 posts)Its a low point but hes had 100 low points (yes, this one is probably the lowest).
This country is still dumb as fuck, and the GOP meaner and dirtier than hell.

(12,154 posts)The country has been waiting for a Deus ex Machina to drag Trump off stage for some time. Instead I think its going to be a grind. The Republicans will cling to Trump as long as possible.
I hope Im wrong, but my cynical Spidey Sense has unfortunately proven right many times in the past.
We need to keep an eye on the impeachment fight but continue working on things like registering more voters, protecting voting rights, and pressuring our elected representatives to stand up for progressive values.
Lets say the House investigates and impeaches on October 31.
My money is that McConnell won't even bring it up for hearing, doing what he does making up the "rules" as the suit the GOP, saying you can't have any impeachment proceedings on a POTUS in the election calendar year.
If he does, it will clear by February.
W/I one month of them not convicting him it will all be a distant memory with the POTUS race really cranking up and whatever other insanity he will create.

(39,343 posts)Maybe claim a small stroke, he's ok but too incompetent to stand trial.
I predict a flameout soo that it gets blamed on. Halfway expected it during his UN speech. Was having issues.

(1,823 posts)His ego will never let him resign and admit its over this scandal... and he wont stick around to be humiliated. So health emergency it is!
Chemisse
(30,809 posts)He's either impeached or he is voted out in the election - and then he is indicted.
But if he was quite "ill" it would appear heartless to pursue charges. Of course, Trump could not keep silent and his ego would force him to boast of his great health.

(3,469 posts)The have to hate Trump, too. He's destroying their party and they know it. They can not possibly want to go into 2020 with that asshole at the top of the ticket. Pence/Haley is their wet dream anyway. I can't understand why they keep sticking with the asshole.

(3,332 posts)he will use all of his powers to exact revenge on individuals, voters, and states that don't support him. Expect many pardons of criminals, institutional vandalism, lifetime judgeships of deplorables, and last minute hard-to-reverse executive orders. Maybe even military aggression.
I think that this will finish him, but I think it will be months before he's gone.
