A poster earlier had a clip from Russian News stating impeachment would not go through, it will stall in Senate, we got tRump elected. (Paraphrasing)
So I read it, got pissed at the Russians and Orange Shitstain and moved on.
But then it hit me, why would the Russians be so confident. Could be bravado, could also be they own a lot of Senators. Mitch and Lindsey are obvious, how many more?

(33,021 posts)Moscow Mitch and Leningrad Lindsey, for sure. Possibly all GOP Senators who have taken those little jaunts to Russia since 2016. There are photos around DU somewhere.

(51,974 posts)well, aside from the fact that impeachment happens in the house, not the senate.
the senate convicts or not.
but more substantively, senate republicans will never formally vote to remove a republican president, in fact they likely would never hold a trial if they knew they'd end up voting to remove.
instead, they'd go to donnie, tell him the whip count, and convince him to resign.
how exactly you get that through to someone like donnie i don't know, but they got through to nixon, so it may be possible with donnie.
keep in mind donnie is a disaster for republicans, most of them likely want him gone, they just don't want to be seen not supporting him. so the trick is in figuring out how to make that happen without making republicans "look bad" in the eyes of republican primary voters.

I have no predictions on how this ends but 2 things are clear
1. Trumpism is now deeply woven into every bit of the Republican party. Too many are too far gone into the cult.
2. #Traitor will NEVER resign. I'll happily eat my hat or any other thing if he does but one thing I know from experience is these psychos never think they're wrong. His grievance machine nourishes him and props him up. He'll never give up the adulation voluntarily

(9,435 posts)Hell, I think at least 1/2 of the remaining Republicans would cheer if Trump shipped us (Democrats) all to death camps. They view us as the enemy, and its what they wanted when they said they were taking their country back.

Trump's approval rating among Republicans will rise during impeachment hearings. That is situational reality. Now you want and somehow expect dozens of Republican senators to defy their own kind during the most critical and memorable vote of their lives.
