Feb 1999
"Time after time, the President came to a fork in the road. Time after time, he had the opportunity to choose the noble and honorable path. Time after time, he chose the path of lies and lawlessnessfor the simple reason that he did not want to endanger his hold on public office."
"The President would seek to win at any cost. If it meant lying to the American people. If it meant lying to his Cabinet," he continued. "The name of the game was winning. Winning at any cost."
"He took an oath to faithfully execute the laws of this nation, and he violated that oath," the senator said. "He pledged to be the nation's chief law enforcement officer, and he violated that pledge. He took an oath to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, and he willfully and repeatedly violated that oath."
"I think that the United States Senate has a clear choice," McConnell said at the time. "Do we want to retain President Clinton in office, or do we want to retain our honor, our principle, and our moral authority?"
"For me, and for many members in my impeachment-fatigued party, I choose honor," he said.

(11,683 posts)Clinton was set up to be forced to admit an adult consensual affair or be impeached.
This is what Reps do. Secret meetings on how to destroy Dems. Harass our Progressive leaders. Not for better interests. Not the work of the people. Ignore The Constitution (except to use it as a hammer). No they have one goal and that is to fulfill the wishes of their masters.

Guess Carter, Clinton and Obama were the lucky ones.. they were only harrassed.

(3,784 posts)Put his hypocrisy on full display. Then at the end, say something like, "Now that the country knows how you feel about Presidents who put themselves above the law, we'll all be watching very carefully to see how you vote."
If nothing else, you've just handed a solid gold campaign ad to the person challenging him for his Senate seat.

(14,563 posts)I lived through that shit, and even as a young man I saw them for the craven partisan scumbags they were then.
They spent Clinton's entire term relentllessly doing what they claim Ds are doing with 45 now, trying to take him down.
They investigated the fan mail to their fucking pet cat, it was nuts.
Never found anything of any substance, until they stumbled on the blue dress, and they made Clinton's stepping out on his wife into the kind of end times bullshit that statement relayed.
As with BHO, they acted similarly and inversely to how they make 45 out to be so great - making two good presidents into all that was unholy and unamerican (and frankly Carter, too, long before these puke bags took over).

(57,077 posts)his economy is the basis of a lot of their business success and wealth. And at the same time Black Americans started redeveloping a middle class and had falling unemployment rates. Truly a tide that raised all boats and lowered deficits. Something no Republican ever did. Particularly W and Donnie Two Scoops.
