I remember how strongly they were screaming not to make her our leader...."we need younger, fresher blood" they said. I am so glad they were over ruled. At times like these, I think back on times like that, and wonder if they were active measures.
Our nation is under attack, any way you slice it. We will get through it...together. Because we are stronger...together.
I have a debt of gratitude to Speaker Pelosi, and the six other chairs who weren't snookered into sucker bets, and used their experience to lead us. They lined up the ducks....got them in a row....and...there's hope.

(6,224 posts)We all know this isn't normal times and we better have folks in place that have the experience and know what is going on. Pelosi knows exactly what she is doing and trump & the White House are clueless. Remember Bill Clinton had a War Room? No one in trump's White House know anything.

Many suspected that leadership (and uncommitted House members) were waiting for trump to do something else wrong - even worse than all the other things he had done wrong. Which of course he did. Let's just hope it all proceeds as swiftly as possible.

(42,770 posts)It was immensely frustrating just waiting and wondering why?? Her approval of Impeachment was what everyone was waiting on.
I think the most honest way to look at it is that she and a House contingency we're waiting for something super bad. Bad enough to move. The rest, of Dems, to a varying degree...66-80 something percent thought he had done enough already.
But totally understand that you can not actually say that. "I am waiting for trump to do something so horrible I can't ignore." You can't come right out and say, wait, he will do worse.
Thankfully it all worked out and everyone on same team now.

(42,770 posts)to be held accountable. Like the 6 Dems who introduced Articles in 2017 ( led by Steve Cohen D-TN). And everyday you realize it won't really happen unless one person (along with staunch followers) gets on board. And months go on and on. Crimes mount up. And it's still doesn't happen. And only guesses as to why. What, honestly, do you expect than for people to target her? Not discounting her service, but trying to get something moving.
Not really sure why this has not been more about trump than Pelosi. But do understand your feelings.

(35,454 posts)how many times did Michele Goldberg and Jason Johnson outright call the Dems and Nancy cowards? Joy Reid and her guests have been jumping all over them for months. Rachel just a few days ago was disdainful and O'Donnell had to have his say too. The rants have been numerous and mean. Sorry to say even Sen Warren said if she didn't act she'd be complicit. On and on it went.

(42,770 posts)Dems were overwhelming for Impeachment. She was the one person that needed to join in and say YES. It could have been anyone seemingly standing in the way. Anyone. The fact that she just happened to be a great speaker of the house had zero to do with anything.

Kind of like how so many were ignored when we advocated voting for HRC, at the very least for the SCOTUS.

A few months ago she was not fit to be Speaker and then she was brilliant!
Where are her detractors hiding out today?
Do we get an apology here?

I'll bet that each of them left DC armed with a large media kits and targeted talking points.
Of course we haven't seen their packets because Democratic staffers aren't in full-blown panic mode and didn't email them out to the entire House of Representatives ...

We need to be prepared.
Catch2.2
(629 posts)We need to go on the offensive. The Dems always wait and let the Republicans control the narrative. If we wait for the Republicans to start their ad campaign and then respond, we've already lost.

things like that only caused division and tension and distrust and resentment. Rather than working with her and TRUSTING her, there was a certain element who chose to try and publicly embarrass her (presumably because she wasn't proceeding "fast enough" for their liking.)
All I'm trying to say is that *I* trusted Nancy Pelosi... she's go the wisdom and experience, she knows the law, and she knows how things work. We are very fortunate to have her.

(11,949 posts)And Nancy and the moderate members of her caucus knew it. He deserved it, but the story was complicated and messy.
But this is straight forward abuse of power and more importantly Bribery which is actually mentioned in the constitution. This is a text book reason for impeachment. Nancy figured that out in 48 hours. Did a 180 and pounced.
As what he did sinks in with Americans it is going to get worse for him.
But had this or something like it not occurred Nancy would have taken the heat and not impeached. At all.

(15,633 posts)impeachment inquiry in response to the whistle-blower complaint. She definitely deserves credit and our appreciation for that. She did the right thing when she felt the time was right. It was also a time when it was abundantly obvious that it was the right thing. She knew that and responded as a good leader should.
My hat is off to Speaker Pelosi for exerting real leadership in a time of real crisis. I am ecstatic that she did.
And I disagree strongly with those here who feel some others -- also here -- owe her or anyone else an apology for not announcing an impeachment inquiry sooner. We are all fortunate that a true patriot finally came forward in the form of a whistle-blower. My gratitude goes to that person first.

(42,862 posts)I still chuckle when I recall how many wanted her to be replaced with one of the incoming "high profile" freshmen... with so much whining and moaning and hand-wringing about how Nancy was "too old" and that it was time for the "new generation" to come in and "take over" because Pelosi had supposedly "lost it". So many lies and divisive smears and attacks were being encouraged. It was truly shameful.

She knew that the anger and angst of the younger members of our party was not a bad thing, nor they bad people, but that one has to wait when confronting a powerful and desperate opponent.
She took untoward abuse from the 'We've got to tod something now' group of -well-meaning and patriotic and open-eyed- younger members.
She knew what the republicans could blow off with obfuscating and 'look squirrel', and what they couldn't.
thank the Goddess we had and have her doing the strategy right now; all due props, admiration, and respect for the class of 18, and the kids in the streets, but sometimes you have to let the bud guys do themselves in, to make it stick in a court of law.
