Something about the TV coverage of today's House Hearings with the DNI that I haven't seen mentioned

During the hearings I channel-surfed.

I checked the usual's- MSNBC/CNN/Fox on cable and they were broadcasting the hearing live. Not really surprising. But I looked at my local channels for ABC and NBC (missed the CBS local) and saw that they too were broadcasting the hearing.

Now I can't say that they covered the whole thing, but the random check showed they were presenting it live. I think this is really important because of the comparison with the Watergate hearings. Public opinion shifts strongly against Nixon when this is shown in real time to the public.

I hope what I saw was solid and will continue. I view this as a critical thing for our Democracy.

Local ABC, CBS, NBC broadcast channels covered it live from beginning to end, here.

I had a little portable, 10" tv set up where I was working.

Most people still get news via tv. I'm not sure of the percentage that get it via broadcast or at least the main networks.

Businesses and offices with a tv going would likely have some kind of subscription system piped in.

The more that we can acknowledge our acceptance and desire to have this presented to us in real time, the more that we will tune in to their broadcasts. Including FOX stations.

They need to be rewarded in some way for doing the right thing.

NPR station (serves much of two large western states) carried t live. I was glad because I listened as got ready to go down to the farm and on the drive. I heard the first 2:50 minutes by the time I got to my destination. Then I was pressed to give a brief to my workers and business partner. They were amazed.

Since I have the most access to news, I go home at night and get online, like now... I bring back as much as I can to keep them informed. Plus, I have an advanced degree in political science so I take the time to give some background legal info about what's going on with the headlines. We have some interesting conversations as many of our "come and go" temporary help are quite young voters.

but broadcast network stations have a larger audience than cable news does. So yes, it's important that they were broadcasting it live.

I think I remember during the Watergate hearings there were people that were angry their soap operas were being pre-empted.

over the past years/decades.

I'm a old fart (70+) and gave up T.V. / broadcast 10 years ago. I get my news from online sources and try to hear from non-US sources also.

Same story but from a different perspective. The European press is rather sanguine about the death-throws of dump (and his bff johnson). They (and we) would all like this artificial high drama to stop and let the countries and governments get on with their business.
