they really believe that if it's not happening in DC and if THEY'RE not talking to the Members, it's not happening and it doesn't matter.
The laziness and self-centeredness of their demands to know why the Members have the nerve to GO HOME TO THEIR DISTRICTS is pretty amazing. They completely ignore the fact that the MSNBC/CNN studios aren't the center of the universe and the world will continue to turn and Congress will continue to operate even if their correspondents aren't chasing the Members up and down the Capitol halls seeking soundbytes to throw to Chuck Todd.
The Members will be at home talking to - YIKES - OTHER journalists. Journalists tho write for their local papers and report for their local news stations and who have much more influence on constituents than Poppy Harlow does.
Don't fall for the "OMG! What will I do if the Members of Congress leave town for a few days?" fussing you keep hearing. It's not about us. It's all about them.

(42,278 posts)House Intelligence committee is holding a whole bunch of hearings starting in early October - that's next week.
Schiff has said the committee will continue working on impeachment during the break from DC.
3 committees subpoenaed Barr for documents just today. I think the deadline is in a week.
Meeting with constituents is part of their job. They are doing their jobs.

(18,486 posts)IS being on the job. And for most Members, it's a lot more effective response to anything Trump does in the. next two weeks than being in Washington hoping to get a 2-minute segment on Hardball.- something they can do from a studio at home, anyway.
it's interesting that members of Congress are consistently accused of being out of touch, trapped in the Beltway, etc., Wasting time in DC - but when they go home to deal with their constituents, they're accused of abandoning their jobs.
Being a Member of Congress is not limited to casting votes in the house chamber. There are many facets of the job - and one of the most important ones is being in the district with their constituents

(10,126 posts)the cable news talking heads could, I dunno, get out of their beltway bubbles and travel to other parts of the US to report on how our representatives are interacting with their constituents. In these modern days we're living in, it's not even that hard to do live broadcasts in such remote areas like Los Angeles, Chicago, or Denver.
Shows they're "presenters", as the Brits say, rather than reporters.
