Gov. Ron DeSantis launched a "Presidential Protection Fund” on Thursday as Florida Republicans rallied around President Trump, and Democrats, including Orlando U.S. Rep. Val Demings, played key roles in the impeachment hearings.

DeSantis, who has credited Trump for his come-from-behind victory in the GOP gubernatorial primary, went the furthest in backing the president by pleading for donations to a Presidential Protection Fund in a Florida GOP email.

“Now that Democrats are officially moving to impeach our duly elected president, my duty to protect him isn’t over,” DeSantis wrote. “As Governor of Florida, I want the President to know that we have his back in this fight 100 percent, so today I’m issuing the Presidential Protection Fund to fight back against this disgusting attempt to overturn a legitimate U.S. election.”

Florida GOP chair Joe Gruters wouldn’t say if the money raised for the protection fund would go toward the state party, only stating the party “will continue working to deliver a historic reelection win in 2020.”

Start a Presidential Protection Fund and then use the money to fund your own campaign.

A lot of people don’t get Florida. The Republicans here are good. They bring in money and more often than not their leaders are really smart and are almost always professionals at media relations. The more extreme conservatives learned a lot in Florida by watching how Jeb carried himself.

The state couldn’t have asked for two governors than our current and last one. Yet it’s difficult to run a constant campaign that will catch eyes against them. They aren’t bomb throwers outside of behind the scene where they carry out their dirty deeds.
