If the witnesses named in the whistle blower complaint come forward, testify in an open hearing and verify everything in the complaint, that would be Game, Set, Match.
There would be no way for Trump and the Republicans to defend that. It would destroy all their bullshit talking points they are using now.
They'd just move the goalposts again like they've been doing nearly everyday for the past 3 years.

(128,897 posts)(or at least close) which is why FDR got elected. And as my mother always used to say, Republicans were out of power in Congress for 60 years after that (except for one brief period and they were out for 40 years since the 'early '50s when she first started voting).

Just a guess.

(17,862 posts)President to question the witnesses. Are you up for it Trump? You can use the Republican Representatives' time. This is the opportunity to confront your accusers. Schiff should propose it.

How many attorneys would represent him? That would be sorta fun see the House Republicans carry on about unjust impeachment and constant apologizes while kissing his arse.

(804 posts)Since he was not a direct witness, he/she cannot independently verify the allegations. However, I thought that the Inspector General investigated and found these allegations to be "credible and urgent". That talking point that the GOP is using should be countered by the fact that a Trump appointee IG investigated these claims and found them credible.

(23,097 posts)Nothing will ever stop Russian Repug rw lies - it's what they do. They will just make up more BS. Kevin McCarthy was attacking Scott Pelley for misreading the call, but Pelley was reading it exactly. McCarthy had not read it and was just lying, this won't stop from him, Jeffords or Nunes or Gaetz or any of their ilk - they are just too wed to their lies to ever state the real truth - IMO. There might be a few repugs - like Hurd - that actually care about having a treasonous president, but most won't give a shit about the truth.

(53,771 posts)a closed hearing as one of trump's sycophants might take it upon him/herself to harm the whistle blower if his/her identity is revealedalthough the effin/ NYT did its best to narrow down drastically who the whistle blower might be. Talk about irresponsible journalism.
