McConnell Confirms Senate Would Take Up Impeachment
September 30, 2019 at 12:12 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell confirmed to CNBC that the Senate would have to take up impeachment of President Trump if the House effectively votes to charge the president.

Said McConnell: “I would have no choice but to take it up. How long you are on it is a different matter, but I would have no choice but to take it up based on a Senate rule on impeachment.”

By law he has to take it up. Then he calls for a vote and 10 minutes later it's over.

3. Doesn't necessarily mean there will be an actual trial. We should expect an early motion to dismiss

He won't be in complete control though.
The chief justice, John Roberts, will preside.

that Moscow Mitch won't be the one presiding over the impeachment trial in the Senate. For the impeachment of a President, it will be Chief Justice John Roberts that will preside as prescribed in the Constitution.
