The attacks are pretty nasty and venomous, like they’re spitting hatred, so I’m wondering if this has become a common line of attack for Russian troll world.

Most of us are women. It has always been that way. Even when we work and are wives and mothers, most of the activists I know are women.

I think that term may have originated on the internet, promoted by supporters of one particular candidate. Those supporters are known for their nastiness. That is where I encountered it first.

I don't know where, maybe here. I took in to mean someone who would vote for a candidate because she is a woman. When I saw it it was being used pejoratively, but I didn't take it that way. I don't vote for somebody because they are women, but if that's your jam, go for it. We can agree to disagree on whether it's a good idea.
