I know that Dan Coates said he was unaware of the scandal, but is it possible that Trump fired him partly in anticipation of the whistleblower complaint? Granted, it would have required ample forethought, but perhaps someone (Barr?) advised Trump of how things might go?
That is, Trump wanted a newly minted loyalist in the DNI position, so that *should* a WB complaint proceed, it might be nipped in the bud?

In other words, Coats was fired for telling the truth about climate change, ISIS and North Korea.

(7,947 posts)that later was turned into the whistleblower complaint.
A week or so before the complaint was filed, the White House knew that there had been an inquiry from the CIA agent.
I think Coats "resigned" or was fired just after the call. (Call: July 25, Coats fired/resigned July 27).
I'm really not clear on whether he truly resigned. But it could be that he expressed some objections -- he might have heard the call-- and that was the last straw.
Here's something of an explanation, but what's important is that a week or so before the complaint, the White House already knew that there was an investigation and quashed it.
