Did Trump know about the simmering scandal when he fired Dan Coates?
I know that Dan Coates said he was unaware of the scandal, but is it possible that Trump fired him partly in anticipation of the whistleblower complaint? Granted, it would have required ample forethought, but perhaps someone (Barr?) advised Trump of how things might go?
That is, Trump wanted a newly minted loyalist in the DNI position, so that *should* a WB complaint proceed, it might be nipped in the bud?

7. I think this is most likely
Trump can't deal with anyone disagreeing with him.

2. Interesting question
Was there a reason given for Coates' firing?

4. His testimony to the senate intelligence committee...
didn't match the WH's assertions.
In other words, Coats was fired for telling the truth about climate change, ISIS and North Korea. |

3. Turns out that the CIA counsel had notified the White House and DoJ of the "problem"
that later was turned into the whistleblower complaint.
A week or so before the complaint was filed, the White House knew that there had been an inquiry from the CIA agent. I think Coats "resigned" or was fired just after the call. (Call: July 25, Coats fired/resigned July 27). I'm really not clear on whether he truly resigned. But it could be that he expressed some objections -- he might have heard the call-- and that was the last straw. Here's something of an explanation, but what's important is that a week or so before the complaint, the White House already knew that there was an investigation and quashed it. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/26/us/politics/who-is-whistleblower.html |

5. Right, that's what made me think of this
Seems very likely that Trump knew about this well before the WB report was filed (Aug 12?).

6. Yes, WH knew well before. That's why they covered up by moving "transcript" to classified server.
I think that was done late July, a few days after the conversation. |
